Nov 2, 2015Oh i definitely believe he is one of the greatest artists of this era because of his consistently solid career and massive impact. Really tho, dude has had a big impact on music; what The Beatles have done to culture in the 60s, what Dr. Dre has done to rap/hip hop in the 90s, Kanye has done to rap/hip hop/r&b in the 2000s & on, everyone has their own opinions on him like they do with any artist ("he's a good artist", "he's garbage", etc.) but there is no denying that he is massively influential.
I'd say 808s had the largest impact because it bridged the gap between rap and r&b/singing, before 808's, you didn't really have a rapper that would also do soft melodic singing, after 808's, you have the kid cudis, the drakes, the j coles, etc. Many of these people have even admitted that 808s directly inspired them to pursue their careers.

Most of this is true for a lot of the artists you listed in your original post. They didn't earn their respective positions throughout music royalty by simply churning out the same old song, over and over again. They all grew and evolved. Not to take anything away from Kanye, because I do believe he's one of the best to ever do it in hip-hop, particularly with reinventing himself with each new project, but please don't be mistaken..he's simply the next name on the growing list of great artists that found new ways to get better and better.Joshua Smoses, Goku187, dkdnfbdjdkdddjdjfvcgfl and 1 other person like this. -
