    These people just frustrate me idk if they want people to obey them wouldn't the being"nice" method work better for them, not holding people hostage.

    Also, I think some of these guys held hostage are French. From what I've heard they seem to be disproportionately Chinese, but the fact there's a significant number of French individuals there isn't surprising given that Mali is part of France's historic empire and they're also being supported by the French gov in the wake of the Operation Serval conflict against Malian Islamists a couple of years back.
