Kanye is a top 10 rapper of all time for me, and here's why.

When you compare his technical ability to someone like Jay-Z, it's very clear who wins that debate. But there is no rubric for what constitutes a great rapper, and this is especially true when you evaluate an artist like Kanye. Both he and Jay are great rappers, but for different reasons. The reason I think Kanye is a great rapper is because his personality shines through on every single song he puts out. When you listen to a song like All Falls Down, or Heartless, or POWER, or Hold My Liquor, you're as drawn to Kanye the person as you are the music itself. I think that's rare, and unique to only a handful of artists. Tupac is another one who is similar in that regard. So back to my point, his technical ability may not be as impressive as someone like Hov, but his performance and personality is one of the best in the history of the genre.

Kanye is my favourite artist (and rapper) of all time, and no one really comes close to me.

@WPG your list is really good though, hard to argue against too much of that. It's safe but informed.

You think Boosie is more prolific than Kanye?

@Skippy The diary and The Fix for scarface. Purple Haze, Diplomatic Immunity, and Follow Me Home for Cam.

Speaking of influences and top 10's. pretty clear that everyone in that list is influential in some way. BUT what did Eminem influence? i can only think of s--- tier rappers for example
    mack le more
    MGK
    yellow wolf

If you were comparing artists in their prime, I think Eminem would be close to the top of that list, but he's been too bad for too long to be a top 10 of all time imo.

Obviously 50% of this board will disagree with that, but that's how I feel about him.

no need to be pedantic about it. When you say MBDTF isn't a classic, there is no context there so i have no idea what makes you form that opinion. Asking for an example of an album you consider classic gives me context, so i can understand why you feel that way.

Now that I have this context, I understand the reason you don't think MBDTF is a classic is because you have formed in your own mind what hip-hop "should" sound like. It's pretty clear when every album you listed is very 'gangsta rap' that you don't actually understand what an objective classic is. It's pretty clear that you only like gangsta rap, so i don't know why you are in this thread. There's more to rap than just "ah skeet skeet bung b--- :gun:"

AND f---ing LMAO AT PUTTING A CHINO XL ALBUM OVER MBDTF

    lmaooooooo

    two questions:

    1. why wouldn't you have two rappers from the same city? what about new york? i have two rappers from the same borough on here.

    2. do you really expect me to take your opinion of boosie seriously when you think he's from new orleans?

with scarface, i think you should start with The Fix, then go back to The Diary. for Cam, i'd start with Purple Haze or Come Home With Me. listen to "Down & Out" and "Come Home With Me," and choose which style you want to go with first.
