Dec 27, 2015 I mean with Thug, you definitely need a certain type of openness to appreciate his music. It's abstract and it's not the traditional sound/rapping you hear from other hip-hop artists. With Drake, it's more of an image issue rather than a musical one. Drake's music is easily approachable/listenable if you're even semi familiar with hip-hop or R&B.

Which criteria you use for the poll now is totally up to you. I've left them away on purpose in order to create a broader discussion.
Dec 27, 2015 Awesome post man. Every reaction creates an opposite reaction. Tpab will continue to receive undeserved hate as long as people give it undeserved praise. You basically summarized the whole TPAB discussion on point in two sentences. You deserve a medal for that. One point I kinda disagree with you is Kendrick wanting to influence the average person. While he wants to do that in general in most cases, TPAB isn't an album originally intended to influence 16 year old pupils (that's what he wrote in his letter in the latest COMPLEX magazine). He thought that only people 30+ would appreciate it which is why the album in general might be unnecessarily controversial as a whole. Like you said, albums are done for enjoyment and in addition for the artist himself/herself and for the fans. And the last point is what Kendrick consciously didn't take care of too much; it's an album for him. That's an important thing which people should take into consideration while talking about the album. Your post is genius nevertheless.
