I've been at my new workplace for 3 months now and was recently approached for a promotion. It's a pay raise with better hours, and management offered it to me because I'm a workhorse for the company. One of my co-workers applied for the position, wasn't given it, then we had a staff member leave and he was then given a shot at the job.

They told me to keep it on hush hush because they don't want the coworker to know his new position isn't permanent, but he's a nice dude and I'd feel like s--- for taking the position out from under his feet.
