Jan 14, 2016 Spoiler: Story behind this This is something I wrote in my Stash (a place to keep all your Deviations on DA private) about two weeks ago, describing the meaning of life. Since I was never going to actually publish it on DeviantArt anyway, I decided to not let it go to waste and publish it here. I get a little religious in this too,so heads up if you're not a religion person. Tell me what you think the meaning of life is and how you feel about what I wrote. Seriously, what is the point of all this... why are we here? Think about it. People are devoting their entire lives to working day in and day out for a paycheck just to live comfortably, when their life can be over in literally the blink of an eye. No matter how much money you make, no matter how many friends or people you know, you're not guaranteed anything in life, except death. Yes, the only thing in life you're definitely going to get this the complete opposite of life itself, but it's true. Death is something that everyone, well post people anyway, are completely terrified of death and cannot stand thinking about it. I understand why people find it terrifying too, especially when we look at what death is. Death, or dying in general, is just not being able to live anymore. That fear of the eventual day where we all die makes sense - we like to live. This is just one small reason we try to hard in life. We like being alive and we want to feel good while we're here, but that is not the exact meaning of life itself. No one truly knows the meaning of life, but I'll try to find some of it. "What does life mean?" "Why are we here in the first place?" are the two questions I am going to do my best to answer. Now, "Why are we here in the first place?". If you believe in God and Christianity, than you likely are familiar with the story of Adam and Eve. Why were they here in the first place? Because God was lonely. That's the simplest answer I could find. If you don't believe in God, this is probably just nonsense to you, but hear me out. The majority of this planets human beings feel a romantic interest in either the other gender, or their own gender. We want to find someone that makes us happy, that makes us feel less lonely in the short time that we inhabit this planet. Not everyone has a desire to find someone that makes them happy, but many people do. Think about it, God created Adam and Eve because he felt lonely. Many human beings get in relationships to make themselves feel happy and make themselves feel less lonely. These people tend to have sex and have children somewhere in the relationship, so could it be that we are here because our parents were lonely, wanted happiness, took their relationship to sexual levels, and made their children? That is the reason God made Adam and Eve if you look deeper. God was lonely, wanted happiness, and made his children? Many Christians consider themselves one of God's children, so the same could apply to Adam and Eve. If God is real (I personally do believe in him, but if you don't that is fine), then this explains A LOT. Sorry to go so religious there, but I kinda had too for a moment. That gives us one question answered, so on to the other one. What is the meaning of life? At the beginning I explained that we are going to die in the first place, so what is even the point of living? I also explained why we work so hard, and why we fear death. To recap, we work hard because we want to feel good, and we fear death because we like living, and hate the thought of it ending. I wanna keep things short, but could there just simply be no meaning of life? Think about it, we can do whatever we want in life. If there was some kind of meaning, I don't think things would be so broad and vague. Look at stories with morals and such. They are pretty straightforward with their meaning. Life isn't like that. We can do whatever we want, whether that be positive or negative. We can become CEOs of some of the most successful companies in the world, or we can become some of the worst criminals in history. It's up to us to do that. Honestly, I don't think there's a meaning to life. There may not even be a reason we are here either, other than the fact that two people bought us into the world. If there was a meaning to life, I'd think it be this: Do what you enjoy doing, as long as it is positive and helping humanity in some way. That is what the founders of those big companies do: something they enjoy that is helping the world in a positive way. Say what you will about modern smartphones, they have negatives, but at the same time they have positives. They can save our lives, they entertain us, they allow us to talk to people in different countries from each other. They are made by people who enjoy what they're doing, because if they weren't, they wouldn't be working in such an industry in the first place. Plus, like I said, they do help the world in a positive way. If there was any meaning to life, it would be that in my opinion. So, my life advice to you all is, keep doing what you do, as long as you enjoy it and it's helping the world out in some way. That includes things like gaming, music, and entertainment in general. While some people hate it, your game, song, or whatever you do in entertainment may just help a person get through a tough time, maybe even stop them from wanting to take their own life, and if you can do that, you're doing something good. I'm out.
Jan 14, 2016 yeah lost me at adam and eve honestly don't know what the purpose is... but i'll be a cheesy f-- and quote Equilibrium and say "to feel"

Jan 15, 2016 Great read Idk about the purpose of life in general, but MY purpose.. are my children..and how I carry myself during my life Not everything is perfect, nothing ever will be.. everyone is different; just try to get along while we're here..and make the best out of everything life throws at us
Jan 15, 2016 We're not supposed to be working our lives away but I think we all voted for cable wifi and Doritos tacos and not killing each other for food and shelter
Jan 15, 2016 There i none to quote the great Rorschach "Stood in firelight, sweltering. Bloodstain on chest like map of violent new continent. Felt cleansed. Felt dark planet turn under my feet and knew what cats know that makes them scream like babies in night. Looked at sky through smoke heavy with human fat and God was not there. The cold, suffocating dark goes on forever and we are alone. Live our lives, lacking anything better to do. Devise reason later. Born from oblivion; bear children, h----bound as ourselves, go into oblivion. There is nothing else. Existence is random. Has no pattern save what we imagine after staring at it for too long. No meaning save what we choose to impose. This rudderless worldis not shaped by vague metaphysical forces. It is not God who kills the children. Not fate that butchers them or destiny that feeds them to the dogs. It’s us. Only us. Streets stank of fire. The void breathed hard on my heart, turning its illusions to ice, shattering them. Was reborn then, free to scrawl own design on this morally blank world. Was Rorschach. Does that answer your questions, Doctor?" It's whatever we choose to prescribe to the world, humans are pretty self centered tbh. To assume our way of looking at life is valued in all species, like gorillas care about making a much money or being a corporate executive. I mean if you (not you specifically btw) choose to be a hikkikmori and spend your entire life collecting pogs or playing WOW, that's your prerogative. Who are we to say that has less value than some corporate big shot executive? What is the meaning of crime? Is it little kids jay walking on a green light on the way to school? Little kids are just trying to solve the piece to the puzzle yo. Same reason ants, bees, monkeys, dolphins are here. Not trying to be offensive but from what I can parse out of this paragraph, you're implying that the meaning of life is to be happy & have good healthy relationships with other people? That is a popular view in a modern sense, lots of people find a loved one, have a family, settle down, and reproduce. Not really sure if that could be considered any more the meaning of life than going to the bathroom and taking a s--- is though? On the contrary many people find death to be welcoming, like a warm embrace away from the pain of life. I view death the same way, I'm not suicidal though, that'd be like saying buddhists are suicidal just because they're trying to break achieve enlightenment and get away from the constant cycle of life. Yep, sounds right This I disagree with though, that's kinda like saying the work of literary critics are pointless because the answer isn't very clear cut and you can find many different interpretations, doesn't mean I ascribe to the "death of the author". h---, it's like saying being a scientist is pointless because many theories still aren't clear cut & vague. Association fallacy Read some Nietzsche or some Absurdist literature, what you're saying is pretty much like that. No offense but people do that without even about that, lol. Or at least they try to, I guess it's whether you believe in rosseau or Nietzsche. Just like the world mate "My experience of life is that it is not divided up into genres; it’s a horrifying, romantic, tragic, comical, science-fiction cowboy detective novel. You know, with a bit of pornography if you're lucky" - Alan Moore Thanks will do, I personally plan to become a modern day renaissance man, even if I die trying.
