So... Im having a skype conversation with one of my friends and he's a Kendrick stan and he told me that he thinks Drake is the only rap superstar of this generation and I agreed with him
What I mean by this is.. In terms of popularity and mainstream appeal
Drake >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Your favourite rapper... if you dont agree leave the thread now
Drake literally appeals to everyone (minus them rock hipster fans) and every move he makes it documented. Hes the most streamed and pirated male artist ect ect.... (not to mention highest selling rapper of 2015)
Now, Lets look on the last group of superstars; Eminem, Kanye West, 50 Cent & ... Lil Wayne? They all dominated the scene and shared the crown. They all had mainstream appeal and loads of fans.
Drake has been in the game properly since 2008 and got massive in 2010 and only went up. He has now earnt his spot in the music industry sitting above practically everyone and sitting over the rap scene. You may think he sucks but you cannot deny he is on another level in terms of fame (K Dot is probably a distant #2) and it has been 6 years without someone else properly challenging Drake for that top spot (Im talking popularity) Nicki did but she seen more of a popstar. Now when the boy retires/fades away someone would need to step up and be that rapper who can appeal to everyone.
Who at the moment has enough marketability to become one of the biggest artists on the planet? Nobody I can think off. Not Travis, Thug, Future, Schoolboy Q, Joey, Lupe, Fetty.. None have that marketability or adaptability that can make them a global superstar who appeals to the mainstream the way Drake has/does.
I honestly at the moment cant see any rapper to take the mantel from Drake and becoming the boy. Sure somebody may emerge further down the line but the 2010's only really has one Superstar Rapper that wasn't prominent in the 00's.
Im going to use this for reference...
Google is the most used website on the entire planet and here are the trends from 2010's to this date. Drake s----s on the other two outof the "top 3"
