Feb 6, 2016 yeah that s--- was savage. the sound...... dude is gonna have nightmares of flying knees n s---
Feb 7, 2016 Thompson fought that flawlessly. I was very impressed. Johnny had no idea where anything was coming from. That spinning back kick to the body looked brutal. Sick win!
Feb 7, 2016 Wonderboy looked incredible last night. Im not sure he gets the next crack at Lawler though, that will either go to Woodley or Condit I assume.
Feb 7, 2016 The Condit rematch is the only logical one really out of the rematches we keep getting. It's interesting b/c Condit and Lawler was incredible (I personally thought Condit won). Woodley was promised a title shot after Condit and Lawler so maybe Thompson has 1 more fight to get it. At this point though, after that brilliant performance I wouldn't mind seeing what tools he brings against Lawler. EDIT: Call me crazy but I feel rematches for titles should ONLY occur under 2 stipulations.... 1) You defend the belt 5 consecutive times... 2) The fight is VERY close where it could have gone either way. Even to my own thoughts there's some inconsistencies to it. Aldo lost in 13 seconds and Ronda got outworked....So rematches might be a bit meh. At least let the former champ have 1 fight and then rematch I guess if it's an extraordinary win. But Cain & Werdum I wasn't interested in, Barao Dillishaw 2 I wasn't interested in, Weidman & Rockhold 2 I have no interest in. What happens if the former champ wins these matches? We get a trilogy? Makes things too stagnant.
Feb 7, 2016 Yea I've never been a huge fan of rematches, never wanted them to make Bendo/Edgar 2 as I thought the 1st fight was clearly Bendo(2nd fight still clearly Edgar imo) and we had already done the Edgar/Penn & Edgar/Maynard fights. I think that's probably when I became anti-rematch, as I was always a huge Penn guy and the Edgar/Maynard fight obviously ended in a draw. The only current rematches that I would be ok with are Cruz/Dillashaw 2 & Condit/Lawler 2(I thought Condit won as well). Rockhold was all but set to defend against Romero but then got popped by USADA, now the B Sample is supposedly coming up negative. So maybe we get that fight. I'm more ok with non-title rematches as its not holding back the next contender. Like Hendo vs Vitor/Shogun/Machida is fine(not that I'm clamoring to see those fights).
Feb 7, 2016 I agree that Thompson looked spectacular. His TDD, his range, his huge arsenal of kicks, etc. I did not expect the fighter who got dropped by Ellenburger to withstand Hendricks. His improvements are huge. You could really see the difference between good muay thai at the MMA level and great kickboxing at any level. Rigg has gotten screwed by this division enough and he should move up. Finally making weight really shows how that WW is too small for him. I'd have to see how he performs with extra weight, but I'm sure he could beat everybody below 2.
Feb 7, 2016 Hard to say what he would do at MW when you consider how mediocre Lawler was looking there a few years back. But then at the same time Whittaker hadn't done anything at WW(not that he's really beaten anyone significant at MW)
