the point of this rollout is to watch an artist in his prime make multiple sonic paintings and just to shut up and enjoy what you enjoy

and yes, kanye's in his prime. his last 3 projects were 808s MBDTF and Yeezus. come on.

i think why people are mad (and i completely feel for them) is because this goes against every sane convention in the book when it comes to an album. i just talked with my roommate (who hasnt even heard it yet) and he said "theres one thing thats stood the test of time in music and its cutting an album, a final product, and giving it as a gift to your fans. sharing that moment" and it made me realize kanye is doing literally the complete opposite.

but its something immeasurably more personal and intimate, and we're all kind of ignoring that.

yes i want a final product to chronicle and place in rankings and blah blah blah. but for now, im fascinated by this rollout and im truly enjoying every minute of it and hope it isnt over

if it was over, itd be kind of a letdown. it would seem half assed to me tbh. go the entire way. release a different version of these tracks if you want. or new tracks entirely

I think you're doing Kanye a disservice by excusing this bs. If I turn my project in to my boss unfinished I'm not being new and innovative lol. It's pure sloppiness. He set a deadline for himself and couldn't finish it in that amount of time, period. A more reasonable person would've just delayed the album (Kanye is clearly losing his mind atm so reasonableness is out the window). Kanye instead stuck to his guns on the release date (uhh...sort of, not without confusion), but he's too much of a self-proclaimed perfectionist to leave the flaws as they are so he's still tinkering with it because...well, really just because he's an egomaniac. "I'm Kanye and I can get away with it", that sort of thing.

This is to say nothing about the quality of the album which is a different discussion entirely - but also directly linked to this release "method", I think. I personally love TLOP but there's no denying it could be a better piece of work with more time. So many things here could be improved if rehauled (to me personally, Wolves is the most glaring...which is a bit ironic since we know he's been sitting on a better version of that for a year). But the album is out, the time for fixing it is over! If I've paid money for this album (theoretically), I shouldn't have to wait another week to get a finalized version of it while I just listen to glorified demos in the meantime. If Kanye fancies himself Picasso, fine, but it feels like he's literally making us watch paint dry.

I had depressive tendencies throughout my life. Unresolved trauma and emotional issues. I went to a small private college and once my roommate dropped out I kind of withdrew into myself. Broke it off with my girlfriend. Wrote a lot of depressing stuff. Suicidal thoughts and the whole shebang. Kept my grades up so nobody really figured it out. Then I transferred to a large public university to be with friends sophomore year. Lots of anxiety. s-----y transition. Still unmedicated. The girlfriend who helped me get over depression last time graduated and joined the Peace Corp. Winter shut me down hard. I skipped finals and sunk my grades. Had an existential moment. I'm cool now. I have my meds right and see a therapist every couple of months.

b. i haven't either. but rather than twist it into some profound act of performance art or whatever, just call it for what it is: a promotional platform. for his fashion line. ambition and neurotic egoism have always been central pillars of ye's art, but this feels like he tripped on his sword.
c. keep tossing shade at the fact im 30. it means im smarter and more successful than u. i got the girl, the job and im a better writer. s--- it!
