    you've just mentioned 2 of his best songs imo, the composition on these songs is outstanding.

    final verdict (4 listens):

    Not as good as tpab, but I definitely enjoyed this more than anything on gkmc & s80.

    Nah, he definitely constructs a narrative. He's said before that TPAB is the album he wanted to put out after getting signed but he wanted a bigger audience so he pushed it back. He said he figured TPAB would be like his 4th album not knowing how much GKMC would really blow up but after that happened, he knew he had his audience.

    He's got a point.
    But one could make the same arguement if we were talking about Kanye's new album. He makes an album cover that looks like it came from MS Paint, it has some of the cringiest lyrics of Kanyes career (The a------ line, the go pro line), The dude makes a track named after himself (Imagine what SXN Eighty would do if Kendrick made a 30 second acapella about himself) and talks about if Mary & Joseph met in the club, basically comparing himself to Joesph and calling Saint West jesus. GOOD LORD.

    also, since im feelin' sassy, did you say songs from conceptual albums arent as replayable? were you referring strictly to rap, or does that preclude the who, pet sounds, etc

    I agree that he constructs a narrative. Kendrick won't come out during the album's commercial run and disavow the product. It's not like he said Good Kid wasn't the album he wanted to release when he released it. It's just not good business to be critical while you're trying to sell something.

    i was saying that songs that exist on albums only to stitch together a concept often don't stand on their own.

    If Kendrick didn't like GKMC, he'd be playing alot more TPAB live. His setlist is basically 75% GKMC with i, King Kunta, Alright & Hood Politics thrown in.
