You guys need to listen to more music -
Mar 5, 2016
Kendrick also has had a 4 year span of commercial and critical success with at least two albums. Of course we've had a lot more time to sit with Biggie's music, but some people were calling him one of the best ever even when he was still alive.
Why are some people so frightened to give more recent rappers the praise that they're due? We don't necessarily need a decade to confirm that he's near the top. Of course, it is all subjective but the "he needs more time" or "it's too soon" arguments just don't seem valid.smitty, Chabuddy G, Ordinary Joel and 4 others like this. -

Kendrick has the potential to be the actual GOAT,dude has that major label budget with the musical sensibilities of an indie artist, creative control and artistic integrity is paramount to the evolution of an musician. Most of the supposed GOATS had none of those, dudes came out the hardest on their debut then commerialized and watered down their music shortly after to double those dollars, which is why a dude like Jay Z can release juvenile weedplates like Magna Carta 20 years into his career with his debut ironically being his most mature work. Then you got Wayne aimless looking like clown releasing desperation projects with 2chainz despite being full of potential early in his career, wasted talentasvdawg, 133minky, Revolutionary and 3 others like this. -

has to be top 5 because 2 classics, 1 good album, and a ep
Yikes
Meanwhile you got someone like Ghostface who has 3-4 classics, tons of features, huge parts in the greatest rap group of all time, on top of a 20+ year career who OP has probably never even gave a proper listen. Lol.threee, Ordinary Joel, asvdawg and 2 others like this. -

Like herbie hancock said, tpab also had a more important impact than just universal acclaim, being used in protests & its influence on goat artists (prince, david, probably herbie too, chuck d, etc)
Like he said, it's also saving jazz music and its bringing a revolutionary movement -

just gonna steal that post from beski
So TPAB:
-the consensus AOTY according to the critics, its also #1 on 90% of the end year lists.
http://www.metacritic.com/feature/critics-pick-top-10-best-albums-of-2015
-the highest rated hip hop album of all time on Metacritic.
-the reason kendrick has the most nominations in one night at the grammy (since Michael Jackson in 84).
-has 2 songs being played in protests, one of them is named the new black anthem.
-being taught at some universities.
-had a scholarship in its name.
-influenced some goat artists like David Bowie, Prince and Chuck D, all in the same year.
-the highest rated album of the decade in any genre on multiple platforms like RYM that only take people's rankings into account.
-had RollingStone Magazine calling Sway in the morning to say TPAB better be #1 on every end year list because it's the most ambitious album of the year, musically.
-is probably one of the most respected rap album by modern jazz musicians.
-contains Barack Obama's favorite song of the year.
- etc
-etc
#Legendary

2 classics fam, the hip hop community won't consider s80 as one
and even though I don't see him ever topping TPAB, I think he'll end up being in the top 10Maximus, EmilChristensen and Besky like this. -

Kendrick will end up in the top 10.. But how are we ignoring how much better s80 and GKMC were than anything since. Dude peaked in 2012 imo, and wtf is with all this senseless classic talk? He has one classic, GKMC. Nothing else is a classic.. S80 is great though. He's become steadily more unlistenable too.. I just don't see how anyone listens to him (outside GKMC) and says d--- he might be the goat. -
