I love kendrick but only tpab & gkmc are considered classics.. s80 still great though

with that being said, you have to give him more time, some are already praising it as a top 10/15 though, but top 5 takes a lot of time

Also like changeling said, top 5 is for artists who have numerous classics (not just 2) and had a large impact on the game, artists who helped to pioneer the game

No doubt kendrick is on the right path (dude is already praised by some as top 10/15) but you need more time for that top 5 consideration... even eminem lost it.

I think its about time to cement GKMC as a classic...and time will tell that TPAB is a classic too. Section80 may not be a classic (popular opinion) but that was a d--- great album to start a music career with. For me the potential is clearly there. As a fan he hasn't let me down yet. Personally, I think he's GOAT but really these terms for who is the greatest are subjective...everyone will prefer one artistist style over another... I do think asking this question for any artist will only produce opinion.

    "its not about time"

like elliott said, his last 2 albums are already classics...because we know for sure they will be considered classics. They captured a moment in time, both had a certain imapct but like he said, the most important thing is their acclaim and respect. 10 years from now, both tpab & gkmc will be mentioned as some of the absolute best albums of this decade on them "best albums of the 2010s" lists etc

but for the top 5, you need more than 2 classics

Why do you think BIG had a better career than kendrick? He released two classic albums and Kendrick has arguably done the same, plus a fantastic mixtape.

he'll go there in the top 10 but you need a +10/15 years career in order to even be considered a contender for top 5 lol

is that your only criteria for a top 5? (having more than 2 classic albums)

I was just about to argue this too. Biggie had about a 4 year span of commercial and critical success with two albums.

Kendrick also has had a 4 year span of commercial and critical success with at least two albums. Of course we've had a lot more time to sit with Biggie's music, but some people were calling him one of the best ever even when he was still alive.

Why are some people so frightened to give more recent rappers the praise that they're due? We don't necessarily need a decade to confirm that he's near the top. Of course, it is all subjective but the "he needs more time" or "it's too soon" arguments just don't seem valid.

BIG released what are to me the best hip hop album OAT and the best hip hop double album OAT. That and the fact that he was very, very good.

people forget that he has 5 trash tapes and a decent one before section 80

people forget that is not only discography that matters

kendrick is not a good enough rapper to be anywhere near my top 5

he will never outrap guys like lupe, doom, nas, gfk, eminem, monch,bt etc when they are at their best

NO.. Nobody, I repeat, nobody was considering Big as a goat when he was alive. People only started to say that when he died.

People were saying he was great, and one of the best of that time period.
