Mar 13, 2016For what it is (a set of demos), its pretty f---ing incredible. It's always really cool getting an insight into how an artist creates, and that's what untitled unmastered does, gives you a look at the creative process of how TPAB came together.

I agree Kendrick is on an impressive run. The thing that most impresses me is that both albums are completely different. A lot of people would still be calling Kendrick an amazing artist/rapper/etc if he simply gave us GKMC 2. Instead he took a major risk and dismissed nearly every modern rap convention (trap, bangers, 808s, contemporary features, list of the hottest producers, etc). And the album is fantastic.
It's not a "masterpiece" like tpab was, but its still a great piece of work.an0nymous, Revolutionary, Tripstarr and 2 others like this. -

Just like TPAB, that was fantastic musically so I'm glad its getting the critical acclaim.
I love jazz, funk, blues, spoken word, and soul as well as conscious music, and that what I got from Kendrick without compromising himself to create some generic mainstream album.Revolutionary, Tripstarr, Groovy Tony and 2 others like this. -

After a week it's still the only thing I enjoy listening to currently....it even brings back the excitement of listening to TPAB for the first time.
I'm just curious as to the other songs he has tucked away.
Personally, It's hard to put them in any type order.... One thing I enjoy the most is his authenticity of being himself. And hearing his music they way he hears it.Jordan, Maximus, Ordinary Joel and 1 other person like this.Mar 10, 2026(This ad goes away when signing up) -

its great but not as good as his 3 previous projects, they're all more precise, fleshed out and better executed (not to mention that s80 is better lyrically, gkmc is more well put together and tpab is better musically which confirms that the better material made the cut). I could see why some people would say its their favorite kendrick project as some of the songs may be car friendly (or more whip appeal), but realistically, its behind s80/gkmc/tpab and there's nothing wrong with that. Like I said, I think its still great.Revolutionary, Maximus, Besky and 1 other person like this.Mar 10, 2026(This ad goes away when signing up) -

Kendrick was great on this, but what makes this album really amazing is that the whole project is a room full of great musicians making music. UU sounds like a real fusion of hip hop and jazz done perfectly. half of this ep is terrace martin, thundercat, robert glasper, kamasi washington, flylo etc jamming out and reinterpreting beats
I know these are supposed to be throwaways that didn't make it on tpab but for some reasons, this sounds like a blend of the old section 80 and gkmc kendrick sound to me. -

As an old head, I can tell kendrick really studied the greats, dude knows what hes doing.
Track 1 sounds like something straight off Liquid Swords, s--- was amazing.
track 6 is on some bossa nova type stuff.
Some of the other tracks are like perfect blend of contemporary rap production and jazz
Only regret is untitled 3...great song but the live version was better IMO
Great EP/album, not sure if I'll listen to it a lot, but it's definitely great.Revolutionary, Maximus and Besky like this. -
