Mar 16, 2016 The delayed release date and pre-released songs k--- all the hype by the time the album came out. We had already heard half those songs in the club and on the radio for almost a year. Just imagine if Kanye had dropped CS overnight without releasing any of those songs prior. Remember that morning Mercy dropped??? What if we woke up that morning and got Mercy, Clique, New God Flow, Cold ...all in one package? Album would've been considered an overnight classic. Discuss
Mar 16, 2016 I went back and listened to it again like a month or so ago, and it's not as bad as I remember. Really grew on me.
Mar 16, 2016 Does this factor really influence whether it's a classic or not? I suppose it would've affected the sales.
Mar 16, 2016 People really look over and sleep on the album but when you listen to the songs they're great. One of my favorite albums.
Mar 16, 2016 I doubt it, a classic has nothing to do with its release– if someone's gonna pick up this album in a few years they won't know anything about the release/ remember it and then they'd evaluate the album the same way you'd want it to be evaluated. But a release doesn't make something a classic- kinda like the botched TLOP release, as much as it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth, it in no way will influence the way it will be evaluated years from now
Mar 17, 2016 No it wouldn't because it'd still have s--- songs like Sin City, The One and Bliss on it
Mar 17, 2016 bruh u trippin sean's verson on the one>>>>> IM THE ONE BABY! nah brah u trippin I feel like hype and influence can generate classic-status more than the quality of the album itself. If 2-pacs work came out today nobody would even give it attention, but since that style of music was so fresh for that time period, it received so much critical acclaim it's now considered permanently a classic. Also, because of how influential it was. I personally feel like his music has aged quite badly, but it's still considered classic.
Mar 18, 2016 Would have the same case for every classic in the 90s and even some in the 00's, half a year would hardly make a difference. Cold, Mercy, New God Flow are great tracks, but in my opinion they aren't defining tracks that would make a classic if they were all released at the same time.
Mar 18, 2016 it was a pretty sick album, does tail off towards the end though eg sin city, creepers, bliss
Mar 21, 2016 It's just as good as WTT. It's a fun listen. But it isn't anything beyond that, and it isn't supposed to be.
