Apr 5, 2016 i don't understand how someone who has 8,000 posts on a hip hop forum can possibly be considered a "casual listener"
Apr 5, 2016 well u know, owning the site and all, i'm bound to have more posts than the average person. but even that aside, i don't delve in to music as deep as someone whose job requires him to aka @WPG. i listen to 15-20 albums every year. i haven't even listened to the boosie albums this year yet, that's what i mean by casual.
Apr 5, 2016 why can't you be a drake/jay/kanye fan but also not really think their new track is good? that's the definition of a stan, i f--- with kanye heavy, i like drake, but the track isn't good no one is ''''bashing''''' anyone theyre just sharing their view on a track jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezus
Apr 5, 2016 no fam, people are coming itt just to s--- on the song and we all know they hate the artists anyway,
Apr 5, 2016 i know that. i'm saying that when you did like him, you made me understand where you were coming from, even when i disagreed. i've never seen you articulate your feelings on drake a quarter as convincingly. obviously i don't for a second think that you're incapable of it, but given that, i think it's weird that you dismiss criticism of drake as being half-formed . i understand that; i don't understand why. (obviously no one is under any real ~obligation~ to defend or justify his tastes to anyone else, but here we are on a message board.) see above. i obviously agree that comments like that are unhelpful and unconstructive, but i'm sure you would agree that they're not the prevailing sentiment on this site, or in the real world. so knee-jerk canonization of drake (or dismissal of more thoughtful criticism) can't be painted as a corrective measure. tl;dr drake sucks and everyone who likes him is stupid
Apr 5, 2016 idk how to answer that honestly, not right now at least. take care is my favourite drake album, but off the top, i can name you an album from each of the last 10 years that i like more or equal to take care. Free TC from last year, My Krazy Life from 2014, kaleidoscope dream from 2012, etc etc. but Drake is bigger than his albums, his throwaways/summer smashes define our summers here, and whether or not his music is 10/10 bluechip top class doesn't matter. my friends and i will likely be playing controlla every time we pre drink this summer, and the rest of views when we cruise. jus like we played 10 bands and hotline last year, tuesday and 0-100 the year before that, 5am the year before that etc. drake is the artist i listen to when i'm with my friends, whether or not he's a 10/10 artist on metacritic, or if pitchfork gives him best new artist doesn't matter to me. fact is, as long as views sounds good to us, we're going to play it. so i anticipate his music and the memories that come with it. he'll never top GKMC, f---, he might not even top TPAB. but i don't think i'll ever give TPAB another top down spin again in my life, and I don't remember the last time i went and listened to a random joint off of GKMC. where i live though, drake's 2009 cuts get revisited when you go to any house party, put any iPod on shuffle, or hop in to just about anyone's car. idk why i like drake, but i don't really think i need to stress too hard about coming up with a good answer. he makes music i enjoy heavily, for the 3:30 run time itself, and the memories that follow. this summers gonna be lit, and views will be in rotation until we all head back to school.
Apr 5, 2016 On a serious note, them calling themselves the throne and kanye sayin throne back in it, possible kanye/jay album coming?
Apr 5, 2016 @Mike Tyson actually looks a bit like Drake btw. I thought that might be important as to why he likes him alot.
Apr 5, 2016 Drake has been the top rap artist popularity-wise and one of the top artists period in the music game since 2009. That's 7 straight years. Who else has been on TOP of the game for 7 straight years? That's getting into GOAT territory, creepin up at least. Now for the songs. Underwhelming at first listen, but like every single fracking Drake song they will grow on me. I will say that they seem a little emptier than past songs, but the quality of the cuts ive listened to weren't that good. Drake has ghostwriters, or writers that help him, that is for sure. Nickelus F said yeaaaarssss ago that he wrote Best I Ever Had (IIRC). As a rapper, sorry bro that's not cool with me. But he's been making such consistent music for 7 f---ing years straight that I can't help but say I'm a fan, and I know that on Comeback season and Room for Improvement he more or less didn't have help, and I love those mixtapes. And @WPG you d--- well know that there are soo many artists that have ghost writing help, if you're in "the know" so much you would understand this is a widespread problem. Drake is just in the crosshairs cuz he's on top. That's why there's not a huge brigade coming after him, n----s know that they'd be hypocrites. Only Meek and Kendrick have touched on it, and Meek was the sacrifice. Kendrick is doing it smarter.
