wholeheartedly disagree about King TROUP. 1000%. it's extremely poignant at times, and following his train of thought is extremely rewarding. The entire first verse starts off like you said -- a seemingly blatant rejection of the song's thesis, but by like the 8th bar he's talking about being the best dad possible to his kids, and suddenly realizes one of his closest friends is rotting in prison ("lil roscoe he sleep wear its nasty"). And he connects that back to how roscoe grew up without a father.
and all this rumination leads to the "stop the killing/we get millions" bridge, which is a direct callback to the songs thesis (troup, although it wasnt confirmed to be g--- related, was shot like 19 times at a gas station (hence where the video is filmed, i think)).
like, this entire dedication to troup is based around the idea that it has thug re-evaluating his life from his friends, to his kids, and (in the 2nd verse) to settling down with his fiancee ("i need commitment, where ya at?").
so yeah, definitely dont agree about king TROUP.furface, Fayetville, Meero and 1 other person like this. -
