Why is hip hop so narrow minded?

I'm literally just going off people's previously established reasoning for not liking certain new styles of rap. If you have some new insight to add, feel free to do so

But this isn't even about liking a certain style. You can hate a certain style all you want because you don't like listening to it. But dismissing its value because it doesn't fit some dusty old POV is the issue

I'm not talking about the music itself, re read OP. Hip hop has the capability to be one of the most diverse genres in existence, I'm with you there

    I'm talking about fans perceptions

Narsh im pretty sure any deep or powerful thing Young Thug does can get overlooked because the majority of his content isn't near that level, or his most popular content isn't near that level.

    I'm not.

You're just as narrow minded as these fans if you don't understand that people don't have to like your favorite artist.

Exactly. Like I mention in op, is it because of the political context hip hop was born in? It makes sense for sure. But it's still music. It's still art. It's still allowed to be more than what it initially was at its conception.

    You couldn't resist huh lol

That's because Young Thug's general lyrical content (emphasis in "general" before you start quoting a few lines where he says the opposite) is unrelated to that and his image resembles something completely different while Kendrick is a Grammy award winner who's subject matter tries to approach the more conscious side

I don't support any kind of generalization but it is easy to understand why it happens specially within the Hip Hop community

Yes. Its obviously not about just thug, this mentality has been prevalent in hip hop for decades. Wayne, drake, 50 etc got the same treatment. Anybody that brought anything new/innovative/different/original to the table gets criticized by the casual hip hop community for it.

Maybe it is because of the relatively young age of the genre. It's like people are still too attached to the roots of it to accept its growth.
Like if you listen to old ramones records they explicitly blare out their anger of how rocknrolls changing. I guess its just part of the cycle.

I know what you're saying tbh. I have a very intelligent friend- also Indian- that only listens to Hopsin, Technyne, and Eminem. He hates trap music but doesn't even know why. Probably cause of that trap parody that Hopsin made. I think listening to old rap makes him feel more aware than others. We argue a lot about his hate for trap. I like Kendrick, Cole. chance, drake, Kanye and I don't even listen to that much trap so he's always confused why i defend it so much. As you've noticed on this forum, people like that are often socially awkward and and need "lyrical" rap to fill their void in this world. I only argue with him about it cause I know it's not healthy to hate something without reason. The ironic thing is that he LOVES panda- the bootlegged version of trap. :lmaooo:I've thought of pointing this out to him, but I don't want to break his bubble.
