Don't see how a project with Keep The Family Close, Feel No Ways, Hype, Weston Road Flows, Controlla/One Dance, and Views is monotone, but okay.

I mean, I honestly thought I was listening to a track that was 30 minutes long until Still Here came on

    Referring to the project overall.
What does that mean exactly? Because none of the 1st 7 tracks sound similar.

Real talk just read the review and I guess it's just a matter of fatigue at this point, 09 all the way to 16.

He's not wrong for anything he said in this review, but tired subject matter or not, it doesn't make the music and less great.

His gripes are with the opening 7 it seems like, the first winter. Admittedly I stopped playing that part only because I've had the summer portion on repeat, but the opening 7 is undoubtably the best part of the album.

It's a well written review, and a fair review. The end product just connected with me and other Drake fans more than it did with him.

"often just falling back on a sour version of what got him this far."

Nothing sour about this record bro. Ppl hated before they played it...reviewing it in less than 72 hours is basically just a 1st impression.

Yup my bad, read the rest of my post I accidentally hit reply before I finished typing it.

But real talk, this is much better than anyone is giving it credit for and they'll see that eventually.

Really disappointed on the amount of people disliking this album. It doesn't have to be a classic for you to enjoy it.

Listening to it like that was actually pretty enjoyable, but like you said the best stretch of the album is the 1st 7 tracks.

You can't satisfy everyone I guess. Like, who for example likes TC & NWTS but doesn't f--- with Views? Seems like a large majority of the people with negative things to say about the album aren't Drake fans anyway.

I do like a lot of what he said. His relationship issues, when once possibly genuine, have hardened to the point where self reflection would probably reveal that all of this is his fault. But that assumes the fact all of this content is genuine and derived from the actual happenings of his life.

Drake is a pop artist, and that's not a knock on him.
Drake's life is shallow, and that's not a knock on him.

It doesn't make for compelling subject matter, but you don't judge music using a cookie cutter to see how well this song fits in your stencil. Child Play for example, is a song about a girl that probably stayed with them for a week, but the petty banter is the charm of the song, it's what makes the entire thing funny. Combined with his 10/10 flow, and that 10/10 production, that's a 10/10 song. But the gripe people have is that the writing is "bad"? You're listening for the wrong things if you don't like that song.

Like @Poohdini has been saying, the narrative was already written for just about everybody before this album dropped.

If you were tired with Drake, you found more reasons to be exhausted. @Soldier
If you were hungry for a Drake album, you found just about every reason to be (more than) satisfied. @Dew

And for everybody else, those who were on the fence both before the album dropped and also after their first few spins, it's continued to get better for them everytime they listen. @KLD3816 as an example.

Like I said, the enjoyment factor for this album is almost entirely contingent on your tolerance for Drake in 2016.
