I don't think the music is always as great as you're claiming tho. I think it's a combination of limited vocal range + corny writing that puts me off like 75% of the material.

Stagnation is an issue for any artist. I'd say, what, 40+ tracks between two projects is enough of one sound wouldn't you?

For those wondering, the genesis of the "Taco Bell" line is in this profile in Billboard back in 2013, where Drake talks about tailoring his lyrics to that kind of platform: http://www.billboard.com/articles/c...othing-was-the-same-the-billboard-cover-story

I get it. As far as signature moves go it's not bad--it makes fans feel connected to him. It's good marketing, even when it doesn't involve good songs.

Yup, which is why I don't like IYRT.

But stagnant is not a word I would use to describe Hype.

The album should've ended on redemption. At least he know he's a piece of s---. Where as plot wise he seems to realize it for a moment and then goes back to being it without doubts.

Hype just sounds like a better executed energy, or 6 man, or 10 bands to me

Stagnant isn't a word I'd use to describe the few times his boasts actually work, like Legend or Energy. Or his catchiest song since Hold On with Know Yourself, or those brooding, at times depressing cuts like Now & Forever or Star67, or that left-field Travis feature with Company, etc etc. IYRT is full of subtle greatness (or goodness) while Views is full of filler touted as something better. It's very hollow imo.

It's ok as a Travis fan I understand the pain of liking a flawed mess everyone hates that took way too long to come out.

See, we talk about filler and I'm still trying to figure out what song beside Pop Style I would cut.

It's fair to say the album didn't connect with you, and it's fair to say songs like Redemption and Fire & Desire show a lack of growth or more of the same, but anything beyond that I would draw the line at.
