tbh. Many would consider tpab as one of the best albums of the decade, views isn't even in that discussion

weird comparison... tpab is a thing of beauty.

its also one of the most well produced albums in modern history. It's basically a collection of some of the best jazz musicians, including arguably the two best today (Glasper and Washington) doing whatever they want with a seven figure budget.
It's like comparing kdot's best to drake's worst

Tpab is being praised as one of the best albums in recent memory for legitimate reasons, while views is being hailed as a 7/10 album for legitimate reasons

Kendrick brought us through the streets in GKMC, but TPAB does something even more impressive...With strong influences of soul, bebop jazz, r&b, p-funk, and all sub-categories of hip-hop, Kendrick has essentially made an amalgam of the beautiful art to be created throughout African-American history. It is a love letter to Black Culture and where it is today.

Must say that TPAB is better than I remember. Doesn't feel bloated compared to Views either, that's huge

GKMC is better than TPAB, all the bs aside, as an actuall hip hop album, based on how we typically judge hip hop albums, TPAB gets points for creativity and production value, but in temrs of how much actual rapping he does, Alot of it doesnt even ryhme. It seems more like a fusion of dub poetry with jazz and blues. the album focused more on the narrative and message than flow or even wordplay and what little negligabe hip hop was there was mediocre compared to his other work. GKMC was able to illustrate his narrative perfectly without sacrificing his genre and contains arguably his 3 best songs ever Maad City, BDKMV and Swimming pools. I appreciate TPAB more as ART but less as actual music.

I duno, I don't rate them as hip hop albums. I look at the entire thing...

It's worth noting that this is true that tpab transcends hip hop as the discussion about it being one of the best albums of the past 10 years often happens outside of the hip hop community...while gkmc is more praised by the rap community.
And the way kendrick was playing with the bebop scales or altered scales, polyrhythms,... etc was brilliant. The only rapper I've seen doing that before him was Andre 3000 and it was in the late 90s.

To me the reason tpab is his best album is because musically speaking, its one of the greatest albums of the past few years and It can stand strong (musically) against most of my favorite albums from jazz, rock, blues, etc.
If we're looking at how we typically judge rap albums, then sxn80 is kendrick best and most rap heads would tell you that.

Like reasonable doubt is without a doubt a better rap album that purple rain (I know I know..pr ain't a rap album) but purple rain is the better album, period.

against rap albums too... because in the grand scheme of things, we also look at the musical elements featured in these rap albums.
