If you think Ab-Soul and Eminem are better writers right now than Young Thug you're a lunatic.

How can Thug be a songwriter if he freestyles most of his s---. He doesn't write it down, he just grabs a beat and spit's whatever comes to his mind. That's not to discredit him, i'm just saying he probably wouldn't fall under the "traditional" catagory for songwriters and lyricists.

you f---ing idiot, this is why i troll, nobody was comapring them lyrically, the guy says he wants pure lyrics in an album, tech 9 does that just fine, yeah he like's going fast, but thats his style, it doesnt take away from the meaningful content in some of his songs.but fine, you want to say who is more lyrical?

tell kendrick to learn how to spit

When I listen to Thug, I atleast don't listen for his lyrics....like ever. I listen to hear out his unique flows and If i can get past the delivery, what voices he uses.

sorry i should've asked who u meant by "the top 5 mainstream rappers"

regardless, the devolution in lyrics you @Topdawg and others apparently see doesnt really exist. there are just more styles of rap than ever before

I think it has do to with the overall experience of music we are so saturated with music you just enjoy the music that immediatly hits you and i can understand after i started working and studying in the university my strive to read lycris or to really dig music changed a lot i dont have time to read on RG all the lycris to be honest TPAB was the last Album i read all the lycris and annotation on Rg i dont have time and i am too lazy to completly give in to the music for drakes new Album for exemple i wasnt even paying any attention to the lycris i liked the vibes and just enjoyed the music as such.

TPAB is really my most listened to album to date (well my last.fm says more than 1000 plays) but i can understand if people dont dig it. For me TPAB it something either need to grow or it just hit your taste i had the perfect momentum because i was just discovering my love for jazz it blew my mind when i started listening to TPAB i shed tears man.

Music is also a drug if you are idulged to much different types of drugs sometimes you dont understand a fine whine when you state it you think is just regular whine you dont really know the true taste
And we all know the mass is dump

You wanted to use an arguement against Kendrick, and you used Bagpipes from bagdad?

^ He can spit clearly without the help of Dre Beats and wack accents.

    it does tho

who was the biggest rappers in 90s? and in the early 2000s ? and who is the biggest ones now?

compare the amount of "lyrics" in their albums, and there is no way its close...i am not saying its a bad thing, im just selfish and wish things go back to where it was before...i blame 808s tbh

    Cosign.

But to expand what I said. Tech N9ne might be good at rapping (technical) same as modern day eminem, but I don't want to listen to a dumb fast flow even if the lyrics are good. Musically I dislike it. And after all, it's music. Same goes for slaughterhouse etc. Compton is also a great combination of a great sound and interesting lyrics, imo.

I used to say the same thing until I gave him a chance and heard songs where you can easily understand what he says.

I should've re-worded it, i'm sorry that did sound stupid. Thats like naming your kid India and thinking its not a country. I mean't like in terms of being a traditional songwriter he's not.
