Jay Z never wrote lyrics on paper. He went in the both, Spit a bar or 2, said "Give me a minute" thought of another bar, and then continued till he had a verse. I always think of a traditional songwriter as someone who writes within the structure, on paper, with verse/and a chorus etc. I'm not saying he's not lyrical or not a songwriter, just not like a "songwriter" like Eminem or Nas for example....

This is one of the stupidest posts I've ever read on this website, and that's saying a lot. First of all, that's not how Jay writes. Second, even if it were, that doesn't make him "less of a songwriter." Since when did the unseen part of someone's process matter in something like this?

Well obviously. My point was, is that you were naming albums such as All Eyez On Me and 2001 which have that similar. The sound has changed but there has been tons of great projects in this modern era of rap. If you are looking for something more old school, listen to Summer Knights and 1999 by Joey Badass, I saw BC already recommended that but I think you would like it.
