Why does Drake get so much hate, especially on here?

Eminem and Drake are very similar
"Both sold a s--- ton in their respective times,

Both aren't completely loved by critics/fans

Both can't really reach much farther beyond themselves and their own lives. Even when Drake made a concept album about his city, it was 20 tracks of his mindset. Pseudo concept album indeed.

Eminem uses his anger within music to extreme even edgy like levels.

While Drake, uses his sadness and sympathy to extreme corny like levels.

Everyone on em's case about his crazy a--- stories of killing his girlfriend

Everyone being on Drake's case for writing songs about fighting with his girl over taking his car to get tampons, or just the entirety of Marvins room.

They are extremely similar if you put them into perspective.

The only difference is the emotions they use to gain audience reactions. But both take them to the absolute extremes whether for the good or bad, and actually succeed more for doing so. "

Actually I post on here out of habit, and because a handful of people I've been bullshitting with about music for the last ten years post here. Nowhere else on the internet--outside of Youtube comments and, probably, your hotmail account--do I find so many stupid, inane rap opinions. This isn't some little sanctuary for my taste, lol.

To address the topic at hand, I'd like to talk about where I'm at with Drake at the moment

Prior to its release, Views to me felt like it was going to be Too Big To Fail. Part of this was the amount of time Drake was taking to complete it (he announced the title what? Like 2 years ago?). Part of it was that he was now becoming bigger than ever and I thought he'd want to capitalize that (sort of like Wayne did in his prime with C3 - not his greatest work, but exactly the album he needed to release in 2008). Part of it was that I was extremely intrigued by the sound he pursued with If You're Reading This; while I wouldn't quite call it uncharted territory, it was a substantially darker atmosphere than I had been expecting from Drake, sort of reminiscent to House of Balloons/Thursday-era Weeknd. While that tape was a bit spotty, I took solace in the fact that Drake himself admitted as much, and said his next album would be far more cohesive.

Turns out that not only is If You're Reading This more interesting than Views, it's better. Views is the newest album from the biggest artist in the world, and it feels like it. In this case that is not a compliment. Drake sounds like he's got nothing to prove here, and there's nothing driving the making of this album outside of a big fat paycheck from Apple. Most of the attempts at introspection were executed to far greater effect on Take Care or even Nothing Was the Same. The poppier songs sometimes hit the mark (One Dance, Controlla, and especially Hotline Bling are irresistible), but the album's 80+ minute running time is a slog to get through. This isn't helped by some lyricism that flirts with (doesn't achieve, but flirts with) Recovery-era Eminem levels of cringeworthiness. The Bentley line in the opening song genuinely sounds like something that would appear in an SNL parody of Drake. Plenty of other lines throughout the album (the Happy Meal line, "Chaining Tatum", the double cross line) are equally painful.

None of this is to say that I think Views is a terrible album. There are a lot of fun songs on here, many of which will be getting plenty of play from me in the months to come. But overall I can't help but think that it marks a major missed opportunity for Drake.

Drake is too obsessed with sales & his brand rather than making quality music.
