Honestly though, it depends on the scenario.

If it's 2:30am at the club, I don't give a f--- what Kendrick has to say about life or racial issues.

If the lyrics are bad I notice them. To me, it's more about how the song sounds as a whole. It's probably the reason why I really like Rodeo. I like when artists use their voice as a part of the instrumental, or to compliment it, if you get me.

I happen to be extremely picky when it comes to music. I ONLY listen to songs that display the utmost lyrical talent. Mostly Eminem, Nas, Brother Ali, Tech N9ne, etc.

However I did happen to find this new artist who will, undoubtedly, become a lyrical legend in his time. Check him out!

I'd like to say both but sometimes the lyrics might be so corny and trash that even godly production can't save it. Example: every 21 pilots song ever

@tpk951 kind of yes. It's down to preference in the end but I don't like when people only put effort into lyrics. There's more to music than lyrics.

It's not though. Music is about expression. If I wanted literature I would put a Shakespeare audiobook and put a best over it.

I like to enjoy music. And if I can't enjoy the sound I don't care about the lyrics. I would much rather have a good sounding beat, flow, and rhyme scheme, over s super lyrical mess

The music has to sound good for me to actually listen. Without it sounding good then idc about lyrics. It's not literature.

At the end of the day, music is music -- even if it's the best written song in the world, if it doesn't sound good, why would you listen to it? Obviously there are some artists where I focus more on the lyrics than others, but production can very easily carry a song with poor lyrics. A song with trash production can't be carried by lyrics alone as easily.

Both, but music is way more important to me.

If a song sounds terrible but has good lyrics I don't listen again. On the other hand, a great sounding song with bad lyrics I will (mostly).

That's something I'd play on my phone when I'm stumbling out of the club as I struggle to make my way to the bus stop lol

It depends of the artist and the type of sound he/she is trying to emulate

Repetitive lyrics can annoy me though.
