Jun 9, 2016 That's something I'd play on my phone when I'm stumbling out of the club as I struggle to make my way to the bus stop lol
Jun 9, 2016 The music has to sound good for me to actually listen. Without it sounding good then idc about lyrics. It's not literature.
Jun 9, 2016 It is, that's what most people write about and why it's an artform. The mixture of atmosphere and mastery. Keep it 900 like the romans.
Jun 9, 2016 It's not though. Music is about expression. If I wanted literature I would put a Shakespeare audiobook and put a best over it. I like to enjoy music. And if I can't enjoy the sound I don't care about the lyrics. I would much rather have a good sounding beat, flow, and rhyme scheme, over s super lyrical mess
Jun 9, 2016 I got an idea, I'm going to put Shakespeare over custom hip-hop beats and actually make millions of dollars off of this; seriously, do you know what you're saying right now. People write lyrics to mean something, if every song sounded the same well... music wouldn't have lyrics and all our buildings would be grey. In fact, Common has already done many spoken word literature over hip-hop beats... So yeah, if you want literature/real s--- go listen to a Common album and tell me if you still feel the same way about your opinion.
Jun 9, 2016 Do you like to have fun while listening to music or do you like to be a scholar about it? Personally I prefer having fun. I would rather have some music where I can have fun and I can party and I don't have to listen to all the lyrics than have something that sounds bad, but has "good" lyrics. Maybe I just like to have fun.
Jun 9, 2016 @Seamus's version of a song. I'm feeling happy. Please feel happy. You should be happy. Please be happy. Listen to the beat. Please be happy. Don't be sad. Please be happy. I know you want to have fun, but you are seriously insulting the thousands of musicians who put effort into this.
Jun 9, 2016 @tpk951 kind of yes. It's down to preference in the end but I don't like when people only put effort into lyrics. There's more to music than lyrics.
Jun 9, 2016 I would say both. The music and flow is going to catch my attention and lyrics makes me listen to it again if the delivery is good. It doesnt even have to be lyrics on Biggie or Nas level. It can be anything if the lyrics are good or catchy.
Jun 9, 2016 That's the only W I'm going to give you. I'll give Ras Kass as an example of focusing too much on the lyrics than the music.
Jun 9, 2016 Both, but music is way more important to me. If a song sounds terrible but has good lyrics I don't listen again. On the other hand, a great sounding song with bad lyrics I will (mostly).
Jun 9, 2016 There's thousands of albums I listen for the lyrical content, but I don't consider classics. Examples include. Raekwon - Immobilarity Z-Ro - Look What You Did To Me Sheek Louch - Walk Wit Me Big Daddy Kane - Taste of Chocolate
Jun 9, 2016 At the end of the day, music is music -- even if it's the best written song in the world, if it doesn't sound good, why would you listen to it? Obviously there are some artists where I focus more on the lyrics than others, but production can very easily carry a song with poor lyrics. A song with trash production can't be carried by lyrics alone as easily.
