no amount of gun control legislation could have stopped the orlando shooter for example considering how he was on many watch lists and certainly wasn't under the radar

yeah it tells me that the FBI did a horrible job and nobody adequately reported him, someone at a gun shop mentioned that he was asking about buying heavy duty body armor and he got reported because of that, but consequently nothing happened. So the FBI f----- up here with the watch list.

and yeah im for people not being able to buy guns if they are on the no fly list/no watch list. but the lists/procedure for making those lists has to be reformatted

it's not just no fly s---, mental health issues also seriously need to be taken into account for restrictions and the restrictions on s--- like AR-15s and other "hunting" weapons. it's a big f---ing issue at this point and it's only getting worse. the whole "they taken r guns hurrr hurrr" bs the right is pulling isn't helping anyone because nothing is being accomplished or done to help. it's staying exactly the same because everyone's got a f---ing tin foil hat on about the s---

yeah mental health should be the core of the discussion, but ARs are not used for hunting and the Orlando shooter did not use an AR in that shooting, so an ar-15 ban wouldnt have done anything

The number of victims of crimes involving guns that did not result in death (such as robberies) declined even more precipitously, from 725 per 100,000 people in 1993 to 175 in 2013.

Older data suggests that gun violence might have been even more widespread previously. The rate of murder and manslaughter excluding negligence reached an apex in 1980, according to the FBI. That year, there were 10.8 willful killings per 100,000 people. Although not a perfect measure of the overall rate of gun violence, the decline in the rate of murder and manslaughter is suggestive: Two in three homicides these days are committed with guns.
