Jul 1, 2016He was thrust into the spotlight after one song and that's an absolute anomaly. He never had a chance to release a bunch of tapes while no one was paying attention to him and figure out his sound. Imagine if Young Thug was signed by Kanye after one song from I Came From Nothing. There are times there where he sounds identical to Lil Wayne. Eminem bit his flow from AZ on Infinite. Both of those artists turned out to be extremely iconic (though for different reasons obviously).
Desiigner has never sounded like Future enough to be actually mistaken for him unless you're someone who doesn't listen to rap. He's clearly influenced by him and they are in a similar vocal range, but the only songs he sounds similar on are Caliber and Da Day. However, the tape is definitely an amalgam of bitten sounds and flows from contemporary rap (Chicago and ATL specifically). Make It Out especially is Lil Herb karaoke. This kid had made like two songs before New English, of course he needs time to figure out, like, how to actually rap.
I don't think this album is very good but I see how someone would enjoy it...though I know the enjoyment factor is hyperbolized by its fans due to the meme factor. I think he's gonna be a flash in the pan, but I'm willing to give him another chance when his debut drops. I'd encourage people who really like this to listen to more ATL/Chicago rap though.
@DesiignerSXN thoughts? I'd like to hear people's actual thoughts on the tape/him in gen.

I agree and also think he's the best artist of our generation -

To be honest though, [conspiracy theory incoming], I think he meant for this mixtape to be underwhelming. Obviously whatever followed Panda was going to pale in comparison, so instead of flopping his debut album, he put New English out to bring expectations down a little bitRuntown, Loyalty, Ordinary Joel and 7 others like this. -

BC said it best when he said that if you liked this tape, you should check out some of the newer artists coming out of Chicago, mainly Herb. Herb is an incredible rapper at only the age of 20 and has 3 projects out and a bunch of loosies all over.threee, Ordinary Joel, DKC and 2 others like this. -
