This question would have seemed absurd, maybe 2 years ago but the music landscape (at least in hip hop) has changed quite a bit. Does Em's dated 2004 sound still push through with today's audience? I recognize some of his previous work is timeless, just curious how he - or if he could - fit into today's rap scene.

I almost laugh at the thought of Eminem rapping over trap beats with Future...what does 2016 Eminem bring to the table? Does he stick to his (now almost 20 year old) formula? I am sure that ties into this album's delay....finding a new sound. Hes not quite as 'daring' as say, a Kanye West in terms of experimentation.

I do want to hear new music and i would be cautiously excited for new material, no doubt.I just question his relevance now that the game has changed so much. Maybe a collab album (outside of his own camp).

    Thoughts?

(edit: i mean thoughts on this in general, not on the collab album piece)

He can sell an Arena tour at any point, and his album will go platinum regardless of quality.

He's not relevant in an everyday sense, but if he were to do an interview or something, it'll start trending on twitter and what not.

A new Em album will always make him relevant just cuz he has so many fans including many that don't follow rap usually.

But overall you don't really hear his name much outside of this forum. So I guess I'd say not really for now but he will be when he's got new material.

I dunno man, i am not sure about that. Dre's album came and went in a flash...after two weeks no one gave a s---, haha (after waiting 15 years).

He'll always be relevant with white teenage girls, boys with mommy issues, and people whom don't speak English as their first language or at all.
Like Kon said, outside of the forum (or any online site) you really don't hear him mentioned much unless you're speaking to the aforementioned types of people.

He's extremely well known and can move units and sell out shows like nothing but he doesn't carry that much influence or place in todays industry. People like Gucci, Kanye, Wayne, Future and Drake are more influential in a modern musical sense.

I hated Compton for so long but after my step dad really got into it I pushed my thoughts away since he's as much into rap and I actually really love the album now. Some perfect songs and unique ideas.

I don't think Eminem gives a f--- about fitting in with todays scene and him doing trap would be wrong although the beats may have trap influence like on Medicine Man. Just give us some bangers and more Bad Guy type songs.

This is like asking if Michael Jordan is still relevant

Nowadays it's only cool for hipsters to dislike Eminem and praise Macklemore for example

Should've kept it at this, Kanye is still relevant today because he adapts with the scene and backs and collaborates with young and unknown artists, He has many different platforms and makes use of publicity. Eminem more or less sticks to what he knows and leads a safer life musically and financially. Kanye innovates and is embedded into many different circles and cultures.

    Just saying.

None of what I said was intended to defame Eminem I was just stating why they are different people and incomparable.

Changed my example to Macklemore, I have nothing against Yeezy, was just saying a lot of hipsters flock to him these days, even to the point on insisting to shop at Supreme because of him.
