I'm sure a lot of you know some of these already, but we should have a thread where we can all talk about our strategies n s---. Here's a few that have been really helpful to me so far.
1. Catch everything you see. Idc if you got 20 Rattatas, capture it for the XP & candies alone.
2. Wait to evolve. I like to stack up a bunch of Pokemon, pop a double XP egg and evolve them all at the same time. Just way more efficient in terms of earning XP.
3. Try to get the best releases when catching Pokemon. You get more points for Good, Nice, Great, and Excellent releases. You can throw a curveball by holding down and spinning the ball before throwing it.
4. Turn off AR. It's in the top right corner, and turning it off puts the Pokemon in the middle of the screen, rather than having to center your phone perfectly before tossing a pokeball.
These are just some off the top of my head. Feel free to post some more and I'll add them to OP.The Mack, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, Criza Malone Hamilton and 9 others like this.(This ad goes away when signing up) -

You know what sucks? The game encourages you to move/walk but it doesn't recognize when you're on a treadmillbubrooskey10, Famous, Jaya and 5 others like this. -

If you're home or at work and can't leave and need an egg to hatch? Just leave the app (not turned off, just change to another app) and go back after a few mins. It'll try to locate where you are every time and it's never in the right place lol. Sometimes it'll locate you across the street and you'll see your avatar running back to your location. On the app the distance doesn't look that big, but sometimes it places you over a 100 meters away while it tries to pinpoint your location. I've moved like 400-500 meters this way without moving. Every little bit helps if you're at work or stuck at homexxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, Loyalty, Ordinary Joel and 5 others like this. -

stickied for all the new players. this s--- really works.
one more tip for BRAND NEW PLAYERS
if you JUST started the game and are down to spend a bit in the cash shop to make some quick progress, buy a lucky egg from the second you start the game, and after you choose your starter, maybe take a quick walk to get used to the mechanics, but try not to go overboard.
go to a populated area, such as your university campus or downtown in your city. there should be multiple spots where pokestops (the blue land markers you may have noticed on your test walk) are very close to each other, close enough that you are in range of all 3 from one spot. these markers are hot spots for multiple lures. you'll know a poke stop has a lure on because it'll have pink flowers dancing around it.
here is a spot where there are 3 poke stops in close proximity, all 3 with lures on:
okay now, that you've found a spot, post up and activate your lucky egg and start catching some mons.
every pokemon should be a brand new catch. for that you get 500xp. because your egg is on, that will net you 1000xp for every new pokemon you capture, and 200xp (normally 100xp) for every re-capture. in 30 minutes, you can easily net 30 pokemon. if 10 of those are new species, and 20 are repeats, thats 14k xp in the first 30 minutes of game play good to get you to level 6 in the first 30.
now, evolving pokemon for the first time gives you 1k xp, and 500xp for repeats. with a lucky egg on at the end of the night, evolve everything you can as per @Bobo's strategy.
if you follow this strategy, you should be level 12 the first day, and if you then follow bobo's strategy you will be level 20+ in 7 days.Lucy, Deadpool, marmin shkreli and 3 others like this. -

posted this before in another thread. making a thread for it cause i wanna hear about some c---- here exploiting the s--- out of it to get to level 20 easy.
if you wanna be a real pokemon G and run cities/gyms like me you're gonna hve to step up. this is the best piece of advice you will get for pokemon go and it takes a bit of of willpower to do it but it's 100% the best/easiest/fastest way to level up your trainer (so you have higher cp mons and better encounters).
Basically if you have lucky eggs save those s----s. Next you wanna catcha f--- ton of pokemon, like legit around 100+. wait till you have a s--- ton of pokemon and then start transfering ones you don't need - you want to try and get as many pokemons ready to evolve as possible. The longer you wait/the more pokemons you build up (that are ready to be evolved) the more XP/levels you will get. A good amount to go for is around 20 pokemon ready to evolve. Once you have this, use a lucky egg and you'll become a Pokemon Go Plus member easy as.
the maths
- each evolution nets you 500xp with a bonus 500 xp if it's a pokemon you haven't seen/caught before. With a lucky egg active, you get 1000xp per evolution and another 1000xp if it's a new pokemon.
-20 x 1000 = 20,000 (the amount of exp needed to level up your trainer. at trainer levels 15+)
I did this two days ago after getting home from a day of pokemon go. went from level 13 to 15 in less than 30 minutes. You're welcome.Criza Malone Hamilton, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, marmin shkreli and 3 others like this. -

bad news: pokemon go drains your battery quick, make sure to get the google maps app and download your city's map to your phones hard drive by going in to your settings in the google maps app. and if u got a portable phone charger, put that in your pocket.
good news: pokemon go barely uses any data so you can have your app open all day without stressing about overages.CSW, Poohdini, Ordinary Joel and 1 other person like this. -
