They indoctrinate these young people to such an extent that they truly believe blowing themselves up and killing people around you isn't a form of suicide, because while they do it, they're in a war. On the other hand, 'simple' shooting yourself in the head is just an act of cowardice and can't be qualified as jihad.
Jul 24, 2016 Turns out the shooter's family was Christian (they converted), and this was purely revenge for being bullied and ostracized in high school; nothing to do with radical Islam whatsoever. It should also be noted that the shooter was obsessed with mass shootings.
