Aug 5, 2016 @Changeling when you say general consensus top live rap act, are you talking like...you think everyone generally agrees he's the top live rap performer? or are you saying he brings in the most $$?
Aug 5, 2016 How is dismissing Yeezus any different than dismissing the artists spoken of in OP? You're doing the same s--- for different reasons.
Aug 5, 2016 Eminem is only hated on forums tbh. Everybody else knows he's still one of the best to do it
Aug 5, 2016 It was on the OP, and I think it explains the problem pretty well. Yeah, cole touches on more serious subjects, but everything cole does has been done before. Guys like carti/yachty/thug-- in addition to being able to touch on that kind of subject matter when they want to-- are treading new ground, creating new sounds and setting the bar for what future generations will expect of that sound. People have some misconception that lyrical=rapping like eminem (not trashing em here) but s--- like Geto Boys is plenty lyrical without muktisyllabic rhyme schemes and all that s---, like yeah if you have that in that's a nice additional skill but the category of lyrical isn't as narrow as conscious heads try to make it seem. Was Shakespeare bad because he wasn't a lyrical spiritual individual? Sure there's a lot of Kendrick hate, but there's just as much drake hate or thug hate or Uzi hate etc etc, and some of the complaints are valid some aren't, but this thread is exposing a mentality that more complicated words=better words or more serious music=better music and the only way anyone can consider that true is if they're warping the definition of music to match their preference.
Aug 5, 2016 I always respect your opinions, but let's be real this time, Eminem ain't done yet. He's still dope emcee, even though his songs aren't as good as they used to be, but from technical/skill point of view, he's better than he ever been.
Aug 5, 2016 Well, you're f---ing stupid. Chance, Kendrick, Bino, Danny Brown, Thug, Ab Soul, Kanye, and countless more have cited him as one of their favorites.
Aug 5, 2016 All that matters to me is if I find them sonically appealing and if they have something interesting to say. I like cole, but yeah he sounds a little generic. I also get that experimenting with sounds is good as long as you sound good. Some rappers that do that I like (thug, uzi) and some I don't (yachty). If you have those 2 things I think you are good at making music
Aug 5, 2016 Bino has never mentioned wayne in a top 10, and Kendrick has always said that Em was better than wayne Also, I'm currently reading Kendrick's top 10 and I don't see wayne in it... Jay-Z Nas Tupac Snoop B.I.G. Eminem André 3000 Rakim Kurupt DMX http://www.complex.com/music/2013/0...-gets-him-to-list-his-top-10-favorite-rappers
Aug 5, 2016 I'm not here to sway anyone's opinions on rappers, I'm just saying that--bare minimum-- these types of rappers are just as valid as your Immortal Techniques and what have you.
