Aug 12, 2016Yeah but it was like a couple hundred dollars a week or a paid for extended vacation. A month before I was supposed to play in a league where I'd have made good money I was in the car wreck that ended my basketball career.
As for the thread basketball was the absolute love of my life and there isn't a day that goes by where I don't think "What if?" It was absolute happiness and there's nothing or no one that can replace it. I was a lanky white kid with average genetics who was obsessed with Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. I refused to be the slow white kid who set picks and shot 3's so I tried every vertical leap program under the sun starting in like the 6th grade. I finally put it all together and was dunk on people from 15 on. I was an average shooter but ridiculously strong, quick with a 40+ inch vertical and great handles. Unfortunately I was injury prone and always f---ing hurt. The what ifs are the worst but f--- it I tried everything and left no stone unturned. Sometimes things aren't supposed to work out so it is what it is. Once I couldn't play at a professional level I stopped playing completely at only 25 years old. I never wanted to be the former player/old guy playing in rec leagues or pick up at the gym.

played hockey my whole life, was always pretty bad at it cause my parents forced me into it at a young age and i had no passion for it at all
started playing basketball alot cause when your 6'5 for some reason everybody thinks it's a good conversation starter asking you if you play basketball so eventually i tried it. 2 summers ago spent almost every single day playing basketball with my friends and got really good at it. Still dont know if its cause my height or if im actually good at it but w/e -

Started wheelchair soccer, hockey and touch rugby when I was 13. The competition has all types of wheelchair users from manuals to gigantic power wheelchairs and small but speedy go-kart like chairs. It's not really all about speed as it is spacing and getting into first position as I've found out over the years. Won MVP for soccer a few years back and was leading scorer two years in a row.
Favourite sport would have to be touch rugby as it's more about your court awareness to break through the defense instead of just speed.
The opportunity to be a part of the state team has always been there but I can't travel by airplane and I haven't really thought about doing it.(This ad goes away when signing up) -

I played basketball a lot, leagues and by myself. Played baseball and football in HS, was pretty good at both but baseball was my best by far. Would've definitely gotten a scholarship if I'd been more driven & committed.Guma, ozy, Groovy Tony and 5 others like this. -

I still hold some records for my college and high school, but I'm sure they'll be broken. My high school record hasn't been broken in 13 years.
Ive been able to dunk since I was 15, too. I'm a pretty good baseball and basketball player too.

I played soccer my whole life. Currently play for Buffalo State, a D3 program but honestly there's not much of skill gap between D1 and D2 or D3, its more of how much you're dedicated to the sport imo. We have several D1 transfers that play for our team and ive been lucky enough to play with many talented players through my youth who have made it to elite D1 programs, MLS, and even overseas.
Im actaully currently on an Enlgand tour with our team getting prepared for our pre season. We've played AFC Wembley and Bournemouth U18's in the past few days. Lost 3-2 and won 4-3. We are also training with Portsmouth U18's tomorrow morning. Expectations for our season are to win our conference (SUNYAC) and get a bid into the tournament. Glad to have played soccer because its allowed me to travel all around the US and now England and meet people who I've never thought i get a chance to see. Going to see Southampton vs Watford tomorrow for the opening day of the premier league as well.
Even though i play soccer, basketball is my favorite sport and I love playing it more than soccer, it was my first passion and probably would have taken it more seriously if I was taller lol. -

my single absolute favorite thing about sports is that someone wins and someone loses. in other words, its' not that subjective. now, in some cases it can be controversial (a fan thinks one pro player is better than another) but for the most part sports are pretty clear-cut.
nowadays, the only time i play sports is with friends. but when i was younger, i played organized baseball and soccer. i wish i would have played b-ball and football, but i never did.
i wasn't that good at sports. i was decent at best. i've never had the best coordination, so with basketball dribbling was something i struggled with. in baseball, i was OK, but far from being good. the sport i was best at was football, but I definitely wasn't good at it or a standout player.
anyway, pretty much anyone can play sports...........what i want to know is........are/were any of you actually GOOD at a sport. and if so, which one?ozy, Jakey, Ordinary Joel and 3 others like this. -

I used to play basketball from 7th grade through most of college, only ever rec leagues though. Used to play pickup a few times a week every summer as well. Haven't played much lately but I used to be pretty decent, though as @YDB said a good portion of that skill probably comes from the fact that I'm 6'3''. At my best I was scoring like 1/3 of the points in a game (so, like 15-20 pts in HS rec leagues that usually end at 50-60 points or some s--- so take that as you will lol).ozy, Ordinary Joel, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and 2 others like this. -

I played every sport you could imagine growing up and went to all sorts of camps and s---. I was always on all the travel teams and s---. My best sports were baseball and football, but I was solid at everything else. I played QB until my junior year in high school when I quit. (Sort of like the QB from Dazed & Confused lol) Unfortunately, my stubborn self had a real tough time with authority growing up so I was always getting into it with my coaches. I ended up quitting football because the coaches tried to teach me a "lesson" and made me collect all the balls after practice like I was a little freshmen. I said f--- that, didn't collect them, and never came back for the second half of two-a-days. Of course, we, or they I guess, went on to win the district championship that year. My high school coach has the most wins in PA history so he thinks he knows it all. f--- him lol. Anyway, I still play sports all the time with my boys, we play bball at least 3 times a week.
Edit: never played soccer besides like when I was 5. That sport is weak sauceozy, Groovy Tony, Ordinary Joel and 1 other person like this. -
