I didn't really like TFA either
I think they played it way too safe and it seemed way to rushed. It didn't even feel like a Star Wars movie to me.

But on another topic with @csw621
I really think that Garreth Edwards was the best for the job. He has spoken about how A New Hope is one of his favorites of all time so I don't think he would make a s-----y movie that touches his all time favorite. I hope we see his vision rather than the studios head executives who want to play it safe. I really feel like the war tone and grittier style will work very well or atleast I hope it does

it's honestly such an underrated movie. i have faith that when it's finished this new trilogy will be considered to have surpassed the quality of the original. they're a third of the way there

I really don't think TFA is as unoriginal as everyone tries to make it out to be.

Sure, Starkiller Base and Rey living on a desert planet are parallels (Phantom Menace does the same thing), but overall, I felt TFA was pretty original

How about Finn? I read somewhere that Finn was unoriginal because Luke and Han dressed up as stormtroopers in ANH. Seriously lol? Finn might be the most original character in ALL of Star Wars.

If it was ANH remake, wouldn't Rey have blown up Starkiller Base? Who's Obi Wan? Is it Han Solo? That is such a reach.

Literally all Han Solo did was say the Force was real. Now he's Obi Wan in ANH? That's just people trying to make their agenda fit, just because he died. He wasn't a mentor to Rey or Finn.

TFA, to me, will be judged on how episodes 8 and 9 are formulated.

Like we don't know ANYTHING about these characters yet. We know the basics.

We have ZERO clue what or who Snoke is.

If people watched the story arc of Anakin BEFORE Vader, people would think he was an even bigger b---- than Kylo is. He was a complete crybaby.

Kylo with the mask on was f---ing great. Maybe he never takes the mask off again? Who knows, we have zero clue at this point. Maybe he ends up being f---ing ruthless, even more so than he was in TFA. Maybe the Knights of Ren go planet to planet and destroy everything in their path to find Luke/Rey.

I kinda want to know Kylo's history. I want to know more about the Knights of Ren (I honestly LOVE this concept, and I heard they're in Episode 8 way more).

And I hear a lot about Rey, but again, we have ZERO clue about her. We don't know what she ends up being. Maybe Kylo ends up being the hero, and Rey ends up being the villain. Maybe Rey has a new power that has never been explored by the Force. Who knows.

Everyone complained about Rey being too strong, but Kylo was injured PLUS was trying to recruit Rey, not k--- her, much like Vader did to Luke in ESB.

Point is, TFA isn't unoriginal until we really see who these characters are. If they're all carbon copies of original characters? Sure. But, I think they made it that this story could go ANYWHERE, and that's what I'm excited about.

TFA was extremely fun for me. I loved the characters WAYYYYY more than ANYONE in the prequels. There was actual chemistry between them.

they just wanna hear themselves talk. i felt most of the film was pretty novel

one man's staple is another man's parallel. i thought tfa did great adding to the sw mythos, utilizing existing elements and bringing new things to the table as well

TFA, to me, will be judged on how episodes 8 and 9 are formulated.
Like we don't know ANYTHING about these characters yet. We know the basics.
We have ZERO clue what or who Snoke is.

episodes 8 and 9 obviously are critical to this trilogy's success. each has to be better than the last and i believe they can do it. even if 8 and 9 are blatant remakes of 5 and 6, nobody is going to give a f--- if they do it right. and they have everything they need to. the characters are all very relatable and entertaining and even though they've just been introduced i actually care about them. there's so much speculation about snoke. i'm incredibly glad that this kinda buzz is surrounding star wars again

If people watched the story arc of Anakin BEFORE Vader, people would think he was an even bigger b---- than Kylo is. He was a complete crybaby.
i really hope hayden bases his performance in 8 on 3, and not on 2

Kylo with the mask on was f--king great. Maybe he never takes the mask off again? Who knows, we have zero clue at this point. Maybe he ends up being f--king ruthless, even more so than he was in TFA. Maybe the Knights of Ren go planet to planet and destroy everything in their path to find Luke/Rey.
I kinda want to know Kylo's history. I want to know more about the Knights of Ren (I honestly LOVE this concept, and I heard they're in Episode 8 way more).

he's a fascinating character with a perfect backstory really really looking forward to seeing how he fits into everything

And I hear a lot about Rey, but again, we have ZERO clue about her. We don't know what she ends up being. Maybe Kylo ends up being the hero, and Rey ends up being the villain. Maybe Rey has a new power that has never been explored by the Force. Who knows.
exactly. the speculation that the new movie has been able to bring about is what i love. they've created a whole new atmosphere surrounding these films and i couldn't be happier

Point is, TFA isn't unoriginal until we really see who these characters are. If they're all carbon copies of original characters? Sure. But, I think they made it that this story could go ANYWHERE, and that's what I'm excited about.
i don't think 8 is going to be anything like 5. i think they started this trilogy with a storyarc mirroring 4 and they're gonna go completely in a new direction with 8 and 9

TFA was extremely fun for me. I loved the characters WAYYYYY more than ANYONE in the prequels. There was actual chemistry between them.
exactly. they all form a cohesive new element of the galaxy that i can't wait to learn more about

When people call TFA unoriginal you have to understand that they are talking about the actual story and not the characters, right? Sure they HAVE to make some things different - but the story itself is a complete carbon copy of a new hope. The formula itself was directly copied from a new hope. JJ Abrams did the same thing with the stark trek movie. they really didn't try to do anything new or exciting. Same death star, with a different name. Same planets with different names. Even the story of Rey is very very similar to Luke's upbringing on a desert planet. Even Han solo's death was telegraphed and was parallel to Luke's 2nd duel with Vader on bespin - also parallel with Obi wan's death. They reaally did nothing new here. BTW - Finn's story has absolutely been done before. Look up Kyle Katarn. They are just going to mirror episode 8 and 9 with ESB and ROTJ, with some minor changes so that people can talk about how different they are.

thats part of the problem with TFA. There was too many holes in the story telling. Too many unknowns. It was really poorly written. How did Maz get Luke's lightsaber from bespin? Why is Rey perfect at everything she does, and so ridiculously overpowered despite having no training? Why does Rey know the millennium falcon better than han solo? Why is Luke being irresponsible by hiding - when he knows all about the starkiller base and he knows about kylo ren? Why did R2D2 suddenly snap out of "low power mode?" Probably a bunch of other things I can't remember off the top of my head but those are just a few things that were not properly explained
