My hope too is that the Rey/Luke training period is very minimal.

I definitely respect your outlook on it and they're all valid questions. My main point is I feel most of those questions will be answered in future episodes. If they're not? I'll be RIGHT with you in harsh criticism

In all honesty, I think JJ came up with the background and motives to each character, but is leaving it up to other directors to fill in the blanks.

Like the Maz thing, I think that explanation will come. She even says it in the movie. That's what I want to know too. Now, if they never do? I'll judge TFA and this trilogy harsh.

If we don't get an explanation to Rey being super powerful? Same thing.

Again though, I didn't think she was a great lightsaber weilder. She was battling an injured Kyle who was recruiting her and over estimated her. As far as her piloting skills? She was hardly smooth. The Falcon was bumping around all clumsy when they escaped, but she used her instincts, the force, much like Luke did in ANH, with no training.

I'll admit, the R2 thing was lame and that's one thing that I don't think will be explained.

I understand where you're coming from, and as a stand alone film? I'd actually agree with you on ALL your points.

If 8 and 9 are copies of ESB and ROTJ I'll be absolutely pissed. I want them to be different.

Like if Luke trains Rey for most of the movie, I'll be pissed. I want them to cut to when they're already established and use Rey/Luke to explain the backgrounds more

And Luke and Rey are not really the same, other than being from a desert planet.

Rey was abandoned and was a lonely scavenger since an early age. Luke was brought up on a farm by his aunt and uncle.

If anything, she mirrors Anakin way more.

Also I never read the EU, so I can't comment on that.

You see the issue, though? There weer so many holes in the movie, and I'm not trying to nitpick, but star wars has never been explained with flashbacks or with lightsabers calling out to users. There's just a lot of BS in that movie even for SW standards.

She's not a great lightsaber wielder, sure. Her competency with a melee weapon was shown earlier with her staff (maybe they can give her a double bladed lightsaber to use? now that would be cool) but thats another thing that TFA didn't account for; Finn and Rey being able to use a lightsaber with no formal training. It's established in the canon that non-jedi or non-force users cannot wield a lightsaber competently. Now Rey is clearly an anomoly but Finn should have never been able to duel with Kylo and hold his own.

I wasn't referring to her piloting skills (although she was good at that too!) was referring to her ability to fix the millennium falcon, when han solo couldn't. That is utterly ridiculous.

The thing with Luke is this; Luke was not perfect like Rey is. Luke got beat up by Tuskan raiders. Rey beats up the thugs on Jakku by herself. Luke had to train with Yoda in degobah for weeks before he could challenge Vader. Luke had to hone his skills; whereas with Rey, the force comes to to her naturally and anything Rey does, Rey is good at. She even knew how to do Jedi mindtricks ffs! She was the mary sue of the film, which is fine.. I just hope her powers have a better explanation than "oh she's anakin skywalker reincarnated, thats why she's so good at everything"

I think I read that episode 8 will cut right where episode 7 left off, with Rey being trained by luke ala Yoda training Luke in degobah. If we don't see Luke absolutely f--- s--- up in episode 8 then I'll be seriously pissed. If Luke isnt the most powerful force user on screen, ill be pissed.

Well in Rey's defense, Luke probably didn't have to fight for his life multiple times either. Rey obviously has had a rough life and HAD to defend herself more than Luke ever did.

Finn didn't really hold his own though. I mean he got a strike on Kyle but Kylo ended up f---ing him up pretty bad.

Now, as far as the flashback sequence, I agree. I don't really understand why that happened, but The Force has given visions before, so it's not really crazy to me. But yeah, that's kinda weird in theory.

The Jedi mind trick was bs to me too. I loved her reversing the mind probe though but her Jedi mind trick was stupid. She should've just used the force to break the restraints lol.

I wonder if Rey was trained by Luke at an early age though. Maybe there's a fear from Luke in training her. Maybe Luke killed her parents, and they were bad? I feel like Kylo knows her already and is kinda protective of her.

I hope Luke and Rey set out to recruit Force users and establish a new Jedi order, and they have to fight off the Knights of Ren.

And I agree. Luke better be bad a---.

I understand your concerns but Star Wars has never really been iron clad. I'm a huge fan of the OT but even as a kid, I NEVER bought into Ewoks beating Storm Troopers, or the insane plan to free Han from Jabba lol

I'll tell you this... If Luke lights up a green light saber, I'm walking out. I already felt like the blue saber was a reach, but if they can give a believable backstory? I'd like that.

I won't accept Rey being Anakin reincarnated.

I want Rey to be the daughter of former imperials or something. Make the dynamic difficult between her and Luke. Maybe have previous training.

I really trust Rian Johnson.

I hope there's layers. Like Finn and Poe go on missions. Maybe make it more war oriented, like Rogue One could be. Incorporate Leia. Maybe as Rey/Luke recruit force users, they recruit planetary systems and Captain Phasma or the First order do the same, and there's multiple battles from it.

Knights of ren vs Luke and Rey in an effort to recruit force users.

And finally what is Snoke lol. I hope he's not a Force user but I'm sure he is.

I don't get it. Why wouldn't luke have a green saber? thats his trademark.

I'm calling it now. Finn is going to get captured by the first order and rey is gonna go save him like in empire strikes back.
