    yeh arnold's the dead guy.
not sure if ed harris (the guy you're referring to) has a character name..
i agree that i don't think ed harris = arnold.
i think they're fully aware of ed harris's character though -- for a couple reasons: 1.) they authorized a pyrotechnic explosion (the cigars), so they were aware of what he was doing and his existence. 2.) in scenes for next episode, they show ed harris interacting directly with anthony hopkins

Man in Black a rich important man obviously. Last ep around the campfire two guys tried to approach him and thank him for something but all he said was leave me alone or I'll slit your throat I'm on vacation (paraphrasing here).

Also the head security guy or whatever keeps letting MiB do as he pleases. Like when one of the chicks said pyrotechnics permission or whatever when MiB lit up the cigar to escape prison, the security guy allowed it.

And then flash back to the previous episode where one other guy said MiB is going off course and head security guy was like he can whatever he wants or something.

Sorta leads me to believe MiB has free reign given to him by Delos for some weird reason.

There's nods to a lot of video game tropes I think. Like GTA or RDR

Yeah right on. They're aware of MiB. Will be interesting to see why he's got such free reign.

they do say that nothing is off limits in the park, so technically everyone should be given the free reign that he's be provided.

that said, based on the little known background of his character, it's possible that he's just a celebrity or a well known wealthy man who either a.) negotiated a super-free-reign pricing option with them, or b.) that he's been there for so long and is dumping so much money into the place that the don't want to disrupt a frequent flyer.

another thing of interest that i picked up on during this last episode is that the creators are able to interact with the hosts' consciousness whenever they're asleep. i was originally under the impression that they only spoke with them when they came in for repairs, cleaning, decomissioning, etc. but you'll notice in the last episode that bernard spoke with delores when she went to sleep after stumbling in from the woods. and then once their conversation was over, she woke back up in the playground... so basically they have at least 2 of each of the hosts -- one inside the playground, and one outside the playground, where they can speak to the one outside as if it's a mirrored consciousness of the one inside.

ahhhhhhhh that's right, i forgot about that. I was almost certain they were alluding to him being unseen by people outside the game when they showed the 2 hosts "talking to themselves" - which makes me wonder even more what the "talking to themselves" thing was/is about. Maybe they'll insert some themes of singularity and the "unseen" person the hosts that are "talking to themselves" with is actually arnold, trying to create consciousness?

like one scene in particular from episode 4, when he's talking to that lady at the tab;e and says something like "Of course it's not fun for you to experience this world, you're merely guests in this world - we are Gods"
could be hinting towards singularity themes.

I think there's a lot of side-mysteries going on to distract from the real plot line. IMO the story of the series is going to revolve around Arnold wanting to achieve consciousness in AI/robots. I believe him and Anthony (?) the white haired owner of westworld, have in some way shape or form, found or achieved consciousness/singularity. "The Maze" that people are referring to is going to be a maze of sorts, but, if a host makes it through the maze, they end up in the real world and essentially become human. That's just a gut feeling though.
Yeah but like the main antagonist of MGSV is some weird, no-backstory, seemingly breaks the 4th wall to speak to the player, whack job. and throughout the story he just does all this fucky wierd stuff and is the only character aware of EVERYTHING going on. where as you and nearly every good character is being lied to, sold a false narrative, is living a lie etc. and if that's not enough to make a connection, then look at what this n----- rolls around in

MIB is a board member. They refer to a board member being in the park. If you watch the preview for next episode you see him
having a conversation with Ford. I think MIB was close to Arnold and he's basically following clues that Arnold left in Westworld. He's trying to discover things that Ford has been covering up. Also, i might be reaching here, but what if hes trying to find Arnold? What if Ford imprisoned Arnold in that maze?

oh s--- my mans, ur theory melted down the steel beams of my mind and opened my third eye
I think Anthony/Arnold both set out with a similar vision of creating singularity or consciousness in AI, after creating west world. I think they achieved singularity, in some way, or at least saw how to achieve this "goal" but ended up having a clash of personalities and opinions, they have a minor fall out. One of them (likely Arnold) decides that the robots are too real and are actually just slaves being tortured for humanities pleasure, where as Anthony is feeling like "we created them, they arent real we can do what we want with them" After some more time i believe things between Anthony and Arnold got worse. While Anthony remained adamant he was/is the GOD of westworld and can do as he please, Arnold felt empathy for the "hosts" to the point where he no longer wanted to be a "god" and instead be among the people and become more-so a saviour of the "Hosts" much like a jesus figure. I'm guessing after that he tried to live amongst the people of westworld, but was killed for some reason before he could "free" westworlds inhabitants.

Arnold clearly still has some sort of control over these robots. Unless Bernard is doing it :khaled: Someone is giving Arnold's code for consciousness to these robots. Wont be long before Delores kills a human and all newcomers are in danger from robots. Theyre starting to realize just how f----- up everything is.

Definitely agree. I think it's Arnold's code, it just seems to fit. Like if Arnold came to Anthony like "hey i did it! this code makes robots conscious!" Anthony's gonna think like "well, if we let these robots think freely, they aren't going to do as i command" and doesn't want to lose his control over "his" world.

    OR

Could be some turing test (test to see if a human can differentiate a humans responses from that of a computers over a series of questions) related themes and Arnold/Anthony made a Conscious robot that is being put through the turing test in a sense, by being thrown in the middle of a world full of both humans and robots, then watching how it reacts. If more Singularity/Turing test/Consciousness themes arise i'd say we're in for one big f---ing twist and the end of the series where someone we perceived as a human will be revealed as a being a robot. (what if Anthony/Arnold already acheived consciousness/signularity and implanted their mind into that of a robot? Or they tried to, which lead to Arnold's death IN the park, he tried to send his mind to a westworld robot and instead his mind is now in limbo stuck inside westworld????

    This actually makes sense. :khaled:
But then again the show starts to make sense then makes no sense at all the next minute. I find myself looking at the tv like this at least 4-5 times an episode.
