I'm surprised at the mixed reactions to Rockin'. That s---'s the jam.

This album managed to keep my attention a lot better than Beauty Behind the Madness. Probably helped that I avoided any and all leaks with this album whereas with BBTM I peeped Girls Born in the 90s and the other leaks which ruined my experience when I found out he changed GBIT90s to Acquainted as well as other songs.

Like someone said earlier you can hear Daft Punk's fingerprints on a lot of these songs which is awesome.

I think quint was a little disappointed in it tho, his reaction wasn't as wild as I thought. False Alarm had the only notable reaction

The Pop/House combo honestly suits him, the songs that take that direction (The Daft Punk songs, Lonely Night, Secrets) are my favorites. It could have benefited from a shorter run-time but most of his work is like that, this album will dominate the top 40 that's a given.

Do we all agree he's sold out? it's an enjoyable album and I like it much more than BBTM but he's chasing fame at this point.

Has he sold out? Or do you think it's his label pressuring him to do so. He said someone told him he should make an album full of pop hits in BBTM. He did it and said pop songs believe it or not are very difficult to create. But now he's definitely more mainstream. He can't go back to the Trilogy era no matter how many fans want him to. So maybe in that sense ya he's sold out.

But should he create music that his label doesn't want and end up playing Street Fighter, not releasing music like Lupe? Or should he roll with the punches and make quite a good living. I can't remember the quote at the moment but it's from a rap song basically saying would you rather sell out and make money or stick it to the man and be broke.

I think he could still release his older stuff, those 12 tracks that released in May sounded more like Trilogy vibes with the darker atmospheric touch to them. But album wise he'll definitely be releasing more pop heavy stuff. Unless he makes a change in the next one as an "experimental" album for his newer fans that will be a closer look to his darker old stuff.

I did read he's sober now though, which could also contribute to his change in stuff :idk:. Not saying you have to be on drugs or an alcoholic to be really skilled but there's some evidence from past artists that altering your reality has created some great work or interesting things.

Side note, Rockin' is one of my favourites off the album despite the hate it's gotten in here. Got to love when that happens.

    orrrrrr

is making the transition to a mainstream pop artist just growth as an artist?

what more does he have to gain as an artist by making drugged out ballads? he will never top the trilogy if he's going that route.

he's just growing, he's taking more risks vocally than he ever has in his career, and just rounding himself out an an artist.

he hasn't sold out, all of his music is still 100% him. if he sold out, he'd be making cookie cutter radio hits. dude's last two lead singles were the hills and starboy, which are both major risks.

I'm not even having a go at him.

He said making pop songs is really hard ut he's done it now. this is literally exactly that.

I'm torn because I don't even hate the album. I'm listening to it and every song sounds like a radio song I could f--- with.

I feel like I'm listening to the f---ing trolls soundtrack with Justin Timberlake or something idk

word idk i just like the fact he's really trying to get better and round out.

boy was blessed with a MJ-esque voice. i would hate to see him trap himself in one style or sound and be too scared to grow.
