Oct 6, 2016I feel like this is one of those things that gets brought up every few months and we've always collectively decided against it. Will have to revisit those reasons why it's been decided against in that past, but I think it comes down to the fact that it'd a.) create a divide, b.) is unnecessary (the current sxn is called "music" -- not "hip hop", and c.) possibly further divide our site from the people we're trying to attract...our logo says "music, sports, culture", not "hip hop, sports, culture"...if I was a non-hip hop fan and came across the site and saw a sxn dedicated to hip-hop, and one dedicated to "other", then i immediately think that this is mostly a hip-hop site since there's an entire sxn dedicated to just that one genre, and I'm turned away from it...granted, this IS mostly a hip hop site, but that initial distinction could have a negative effect to potential new users (I don't doubt it could potentially have a positive effect...I'm not a d--- psychology major though).
tl;dr -- let's discuss in staff sxn some more with the wider group.

ive made this thread before and it ended up with us getting the [Non Hip-hop] prefix tag thing so if u wanna sort through all the hip hop threads in the music sxn u can filter that way

I propose a full time "non rap" section...
I've noticed since I've joined there's at least a few more / new fans outside of rap or at least getting their toes wet.
I believe this section can and will accomplish a few things
1. Keep posters who may not be die hard fans up to date with a group/band/artist whether tour announcements, reissues, loose songs, album information or any general news such as announced hiatus.
You may say: "Why Can't this be done in music section?"
With the constant flow of threads being made daily and the simple fact rap music moves at a faster pace with rumors, beefs, sound cloud looses and all included starting up official threads for artist who may not be very active at the moment can get lost in pages within a matter of hours.
Some, even fans may find it not important enough to make the thread about a tour announcement or whatever the case may be because they believe nobody will care if they don't have a sample size of who's interested in said artist group or band
2. Introduce posters to new music:
Blossoming fans outside of the rap genre can learn about some artist already here but are cornered into ACTIVE artist primarily and not necessarily the best of whatever genre...
I say this because people can discover a non rap act here if their project is sticked apon release but may never hear about the greats or get to here what posters whos musical opinion they agree within rap like outside of rap not to mention you're more likely to agree with / take a suggestion from a familiar face who you have some background on in regards to music taste then you are reading a out of date "ALL TIME" list written by a snobby 40 year old on some critic site
An example:
Talking Heads and The Cure are two of my favorite bands OAT neither will release anything ever again...
There isn't much of a reason to make a short lived thread on these groups to be swept under the rug in music section BUT with a permanent section for bands like this posters have more incentive to make informational OPs that are more likely to properly inform and introduce novices on the music act which can gain more traffic due to more things to post about which brings me to my last point
3. Gain traffic / bring in new members:
A sample size of ktt for example. They have posters who frequent EXCLUSIVELY the Pop and rock sections of the forum.I imagine the decision to introduce those sections not only gave posters more incentive to stick around without the music section shenanigans but also brought along new members by either
A. Existing members recomendations
And
B. Simple Google searches of whatever artist will bring up results of the forums thread
I believe we have many inactive / lurking members who may browse for hip hop news but are also interested in genres outside of rap and this would give them more incentive to be active
In the end with all of the points made above and the fact this will NOT turn into a indie music forum BUT WILL have a designated place for that demographic we may not have a hold of I see this as only a positive creation

Let me know what you guys think or if you guys have any variations of this idea...
I also think @Ordinary Joel among a few others ive come across here (sadly whos tags I can't remember on hand) would make great MODs!
