Oct 15, 2016 It's all subjective but, as a general rule, I'd say yes, lyricism is very important. That's not to say that I expect every rap verse to be a poetic dissertation, i just find music much more enjoyable when it makes me think. That being said, production is just as, if not more, important for me. I could, to an extent, listen to jibberish lyrics over incredible production, but I find it very hard to listen to good lyricism over a piss poor beat that's been badly mixed/mastered.
Oct 15, 2016 Lyrics are definitely important to a certain extent. You could be a great lyricist but really boring so that doesn't mean s---, also on the other end you could be a s-----y lyricist and make fun music that's enjoyable to listen to. But I don't think you can be considered a great rapper with s-----y lyrics. Just because you rap over good production and have a following, it doesn't mean anything when you just spew a bunch of nonsensical s---
Oct 15, 2016 its not about lyricsm any more. Its about sounding cool without any substance and I love it - it's a vibe! IF you wake up with an under-bite crying face cause the rap game isn't like the 90s you should just jump into a shallow lake head first cause nobody care about your tears
Oct 15, 2016 lupe the trash man. Dude sounds like lasers every time a song lands on itunes. I can't even blame Atlantic anymore. Atlantic is just playing the disappointed parent role.
Oct 15, 2016 Think is was the op where he said rock and other genres aren't good lyric wise which is so f---ing laughable
Oct 15, 2016 Yea lol weird like I love hip hop and the lyrics are fun and can be thought provoking but lol in terms of song writing pretty much every subset of rock is leagues better
Oct 16, 2016 I remember telling my mother that I like hip hop because of the word play, punchlines, and usage of metaphors...she then took that as an opportunity to try and argue that country music uses the same amount of those components in their lyrics. ...no, mom. No.
Oct 16, 2016 It's like Slim Shady said in one of his songs : ''It is not about lyrics anymore It’s about a hot beat and a catchy hook ''
