Oct 29, 2016This is why I've never felt like a loser for being on forums and having "online friends". Hard to find people as involved or as invested as you IRL on any topic outside of sports imo.

Both sides have some good arguments imo. By the way I'm not talking about dumbass memes or other childish s---, hence why I labeled this thread as serious.
On one hand
- you get in contact with people you would never get in touch with otherwise
- it helps people to actually get in touch with people
- you can share things with more people at once and talk to people far away
- information can be shared with big groups. For example when a person is missing, lots of people get the message and can look out for him/her
On the other hand
- if you look at parties/concerts/festivals lots of people are looking at their phone instead of talking to eachother.
- People are more concerned with sharing pictures and video's of events they're at instead of enjoying them
- Some are tough guys on social media, but are scared to talk to people irl
- Social isolation: they are living in the online world and ignore real people/conversations
- it can be very dangerous if you don't watch out what information you share (like young people posting their location etc)

They are useful tools to build your brand and keep in touch with people when used in moderation but even then every time you get 1000 retweets on Twitter you are making Twitter money, not yourself. Facebook has been proven to make people depressed. People spend time faking their ideal self online rather than working toward their actual ideal self. For example, actual happy couples don't need to constantly share how happy they are on Facebook because they're already happy. -

As with most things, anything is fine in moderation. I deleted Facebook when it became a place for parents to play Farmville. I deleted Twitter when I stopped finding it entertaining. The internet is mainly where I converse with strangers about topics that I enjoy more than the people that I know in real life. Using it for people I already know felt redundant.Lina, dkdnfbdjdkdddjdjfvcgfl, Ordinary Joel and 4 others like this. -

Forum sites are the most addicting which is bad but I like Facebook because there's where I find out where all the parties are around my city and I message certain people on there
That's mainly it I avoid looking at peoples stuff I never comment like or share anything I never interact with random s--- I just focus on my own priorities which includes s--- posting on forums I supposeOwI, Lina, Ordinary Joel and 1 other person like this. -

Yeah I'm on Facebook all the time talking to friends, seeing what they're up to and sussing out the memes. Mainly the memes.....
Twitter I only use for following famous people and athletes, also used it to get content for the Kanye FB page if I'm not designing the pics myself.I hardly ever go on Twitter tho.
Instagram is a mixture of both but I browse that everyday.Michael Myers, Ordinary Joel and 83837477 like this. -

It can be pretty useful to keep up with family & friends which is cool. It is weird when you run into some FB friend irl that you are really just an acquaintance with, and you have to avoid try to avoid them
I really only use instagram daily. I like to follow only people I actually like there and keep up with my feed. Facebook I check for notis every few days, Twitter I use to tweet a few times a month, never really check either feed much. Snapchat I forget about and check maybe weekly. I try to replace social media checking with more useful stuff like reading NY Times app or stuff I follow in Feedly. And of course I check s80 several times a dayMichael Myers, 83837477 and Ordinary Joel like this.(This ad goes away when signing up) -
