    "Mumble rap" isn't a genre. Most people who label certain rappers as "mumble rap" are severely out of touch with modern rap as it generalizes a bunch of rappers who are virtually nothing alike into a nonexistent genre based upon one piece of vague criteria that has negative connotations.

    but yeah the term 'mumble rap' is going to be associated with those artists and that sound regardless of your opinion, no point even going back and forth about this.

    I'm not disputing mumble rap's existence as a term, I'm saying it's a term used by people who don't listen to enough rap or think critically enough about it to know what the f--- they're talking about.

    "mumble rap" is pretty much only used when certain artists are being downplayed. It's a term to use for music just as much as "dust" is
