He loses his audience but then somehow finds new ones.

this is such a silly, 2002-level mindset...I mean, you can't REALLY think that Kanye (been around and successful for 12+ years) and Drake (arguably the biggest rapper of the past several years) will be committing "career suicide" by dropping within THREE MONTHS of Eminem lol. Think about what you just typed.

First of all, people don't buy albums like they used to anymore - streams are where it's at, so the idea of teenagers standing around in Target with a binary choice ("Mom gave me ten dollars - should I buy Eminem or should I buy Kanye/Drake?") is no longer operative. People who want to listen to both can and will listen to both, on repeat, as much as they want.

Secondly, you have to grapple with the fact that Drake is currently the dominant name in hip-hop. MMLP2 is triple platinum after three years? Fair enough; View is ALREADY triple platinum, after 6 months. It's had literally one BILLION streams on Apple Music. On top of this, Pablo's streaming numbers were formidable (despite its initial exclusivity), so Kanye is in a pretty good place commercially as well. Could Marshall come back and be bigger than ever? Sure, it's possible, but we're living in a different world now

That isn't to say I'm making any sort of prediction on whether a 2017 Eminem album will over/underperform a 2017 Drake and Kanye collab - I have no idea! We haven't heard any of the music yet and have no idea how good it will be or what sort of audience it will appeal to. I'm just pushing back on this idea that Eminem is this towering monster, and if an artist wants to have a successful project, they'd better avoid entire months of the calendar, or else they'll fail.

I'm also going to add the caveat that I don't like Views and don't want this project to happen, btw, just to preemptively shield myself from charges of stanning

His core audience is actually very strong, he probably has the most dedicated fans in rap history

Collecting. I buy my favs on vinyl because I like having them and to support the ones I really love (streaming doesn't help much but I still do it). I agree buying s--- digital is really dumb though. personally think CDs are dumb because no ones f---ing using a Cd player these days and if its for a physical copy/collecting vinyl is better for that because it has bigger artwork, you can display it etc.
