So basically...here in Washington, we get like 2-3 days a year max where it's a decent amount of snow/rain combo that freezes and turns the streets in my neighborhood into sheets of ice. No one in my neighborhood drives anywhere during this time, we live on the middle of a steep hill so it's dangerous and basically impossible, even 4 wheel drive doesn't help much. The only car I saw try to go up or down the hill all day was a UPS truck.

So anyways I call in and explain the whole situation, about 20 other people had already called in for basically the same reason. She says they can send an SUV to pick me up, I continue to explain why it's a horrible and dangerous idea. I mention I haven't seen a car try to go up or down in 5 hours. What makes it even worse is for the 1st time I've ever worked here(which is a year), there was a 2nd person working the same job I work so it was pointless for me to even come in. They had me come in and do someone else's job, since those people were allowed to call out since they have a different boss who's not a complete lunatic.

Anyways this co-worker gives me a ride home and is saying his SUV will handle it fine, later we start sliding down a hill and crash into the back of a parked car about a mile and a half from my home. We're actually lucky the parked car was there or we could have slid farther down the huge hill, gained speed and who knows what would have happened. We were probably going 20-25 mph when we crashed, we actually crashed into part of a sign about 10 seconds before crashing into this parked car.

We try to move the car into a better spot since we were blocking part of the road once we spun out, but we can't..We were stuck on a sheet of ice and the car won't move. He called AAA first, after waiting 30-40 mins they can't find any tow truck(duh, what crazy f--- would drive tonight?) Then we call 911 and tell them what happened and file an accident report, they send a cop car out to us....but the cop calls us 15 mins later and says he sees where we are, but can't get down the hill. He says he'll go back and try to get studded tires but it may take an hour or more..You know it's great when cops can't even make it to you, if we had been seriously injured in the accident, we probably would have died cuz I doubt an ambulance could have got there..

So we don't wanna wait any longer(had been sitting there about 90 mins already) and say f--- it and try to push his car a bit to the side so it's not blocking the road, this took a while and was very difficult on the ice. We then decided to walk to my house, this walk was maybe the most torturous thing of my life..It was about a mile and a half, down a big hill then around some turns, then up 2 other hills. This would mostly be like a 15 minute walk, took us almost an hour. Every step was a f---in challenge and we both slipped on our a--- plenty of times. I can't properly describe how difficult this really was. My shoulder, back and 1 of my knees are sore..The shoulder was sore after the accident, the knee and back I think are from falling on the ice a bunch.

Oh and I didn't even mention that 10 minutes before they told me I had to come in, a different manager actually told me to NOT worry about it and that I don't have to come in..But the one who said I did have to come in was higher up, so she had final say..What a f---in joke and a poorly run place, someone else was already working my shift and she still made me come in. I'm beyond pissed and don't know how I can still work for this lady, luckily I'm off the next 2 days and can figure out what to do. The guy who was driving is staying at my place tonight since he can't move his car and is gonna sue the company and get them to pay for all the damages to his car, the other car and pay for a temporary rental too.

What a nightmare, and what a idiotic decision by my boss. I hate this woman so much right now.

Oh and another thing that really really pissed me off, is earlier in the day when I was arguing with her about this and saying how it's such an awful idea..She sent me this text:

'I'm not worried about us getting you here and home safe, but I am worried about you caring to come out.'

Wow, not only did she not take me seriously at all when I mentioned how dangerous it'd be, but she challenged my work ethic for being worried about how dangerous it was lol..

Tbh, could of made a light of bad situation. Played with snowballs, make snow angles, laugh about your co-worker busting his a---. That's memories you can never relive. "Remember when we made a fort when we waiting for AAA" :allears::allears::allears: ahhh good times

Ugh we eventually made a joke or 2 like 2 hours later.. Till then we were just figuring out what to do, waiting for cops, trying to move the car etc. l felt and still feel awful for the guy, he was just trying to be nice and give me a ride home.

Whole situation seems like a cluster f--- off a bad company. If your job doesn't requires you to do an action that is essential to everyday life, like 911 or Mail, then taking a day off cause your environment is dangerous is a perfect excuse. The manager is a dickhead. Go sell kilos and manage an up and coming rapper. thank Don Trap (me) for the inspiration

    glad to know you're OK

this story reminds me of something similar that happened to me---although yours sounds like it was definitely worse

one time, a couple years ago, i was headed to work and it had only been snowing for maybe 30-45 minutes. anyway, there's a very small hill you have to go down to exit my neighboorhood. this hill had a light coating of snow on it, but for whatever reason my car still wouldn't stop and i was headed right into someone's living room. at the bottom of this hill, there is someone's home, and i was headed right for it. but once my car got on a flat surface (in other words, once i got to the bottom of the hill) my car stopped and i didn't end up in their living room. it was mad scary.

and when i looked to my right, i noticed two other cars that were entering the neighboorhood (going up the hill) that had spun out as well. but luckily none of them got injured and eventually they were able to re-gain control of their vehicles.

this was my one near-death experience, and i said....it wasn't even much snow on the road when this happened

    Get a snowmobile.

I love the snow, similar thing happened to me last year. We needed beer in the middle of a snow storm and I was at my friends who lives up in the backwoods where it's all hilly roads everywhere. His car ended up sliding down a hill and slid sideways at the bottom so we were okay. We left his car in the road and walked 2 miles or so to get beer and then walked back lol. We almost got hit by some guy when we were walking cuz he came over a hill too fast and slid towards us. I ended up just jumping down the outer bank on the side of the road. Good times.

Also I lived in Minnesota for like 20 years and I know the amount of snow/ice we got here wasn't s--- compared to there or a lot of other places in the midwest or east coast, but the problem is here they don't know how to deal with the s---. They don't know how to take care of the roads or anything like that, I've seen schools close down here when there was even a threat of snow lol. It's definitely completely different than how these situations were handled in Minnesota.

lol my senior year of high school they canceled school because of forecast snow and it didn't snow until like 7PM that night. It was pretty dope because it was right before my winter break so we ended up having almost an extra week off and we didn't have to make up the extra days in the summer because we would already have been graduated.

Even though my commute is only like 20 min by bus I brought my work computer home to work from home because you can't count on the buses in any amount of snow. City of Seattle doesn't even own any snowplows lol. We had a huge snowstorm in 2008 and I remember waiting for the bus for over an hour and then the bus that came didn't even stop because it was so full.

...though I ended up calling in sick anyway cuz I've had a nasty cold for d--- near three weeks.

That's so crazy for such a big area like Seattle..I get that snow isn't a regular basis thing but still you'd think they should have at least a couple snow plows to be ready for when it does come.

But yeah the whole max system was down yesterday too, wasn't running at all. That's the light rail here in Portland, I assume buses weren't running either but not positive.

here in Edmonton its the opposite: there are fleets of plows and gravel trucks, calling in because of the snow (the blizzards are sometimes extreme) is absolutely not a consideration no matter what

the schools never close either. it's f---ing bs

the current temperature here is -30C (-22F)
