Dec 10, 2016 After 2 years anticipation, I can't help but to feel let down after my favorite artist released his latest album. Sure he has some incredible songs (Immortal, Neighbors, Change, and 4 Your Eyez Only), but it does not make up for the quality of the other tracks. I think Cole accomplished what he wanted with this album. It just wasn't the album we wanted from him as fans. I'm really hoping for a follow up mixtape early in 2017. Cole didn't leave us with enough quality content to leave us dry for another two years.
Dec 10, 2016 I think the album is incredible, this is A+ pen game lol. Could maybe have 2 songs more, but this length is a good listen. This is his best project yet cause everything flows like a book.
Dec 10, 2016 I sit in silence and find whenever I meditate My fears alleviate, my tears evaporate My faith don't deviate.. But see I'm growing and getting stronger with every breath Bringing me closer to heaven's doors with every step As we speak I'm at peace, no longer scared to die Most n----s don't believe in God and so they terrified DAAAAAMN
Dec 10, 2016 I think it fell short in a lot of areas but Immortal and the outro are some of Cole's best songs ever.
Dec 10, 2016 It is one of the best he's done. This is for sure another chapter in Truly Yours though.
Dec 10, 2016 I'm in the same boat as OP. Let down my an album where I enjoy those 4 or so tracks, and that simply doesn't have the replay value and excitement to get me to keep listening.
Dec 10, 2016 maybe his song writing, but his actually verses are the best written of his career to this point.
Dec 10, 2016 j.cole has his moments, but for the most part his lyrics simply aren't good enough. all rappers have bad/corny lines, but with cole it's much more frequent. this is what ruins (most) of his songs and makes him unexceptional. when you listen to j cole, the majority of his songs don't feel exceptional/special. he just feels like a mediocre rapper. and he doesn't have that it factor sets him apart from other rappers. he has good ideas, but the majority of his songs just aren't executed very well. and don't get me wrong because i like some of his stuff-----but he's not anything to write home about.
Dec 10, 2016 yeah, the album is structured well. these are the songs that i think stand out from whom the bell tolls vile mentality change what about you?
Dec 10, 2016 word i liked deja vu, change, and the last track was pre good. overall i'm done with this album tho. doesn't give me any value on consecutive listens.
Dec 10, 2016 4YEO is for a conservative rapper like Cole, his most ambitious project. I think most of us Cole fans are proud that he managed to stick with a theme and execute it well for a full-length LP, he failed miserably at this on Born Sinner. Some of his best work to date is on here and sonically this is--in the scope of his career--the most rich project yet... Despite all this I still feel uninterested in his work nowadays, I think someone else could appreciate it more but it feels like I've been hearing Cole tell the same story since 2013. Funny enough I want more Work Outs & Power Trips which I feel he could be good at (which probably explains why Deja Vu is as of now my most played song from the album).
Dec 10, 2016 I actually really enjoyed this album, not more than TWU and FNL, but I still prefer it to FHD and BS. It's got some real grown man s--- on it, feels like Cole really grew between the albums, and apart from Foldin Clothez there's not a song on this album I don't like.
Dec 11, 2016 There's really no amount of listens that will make me enjoy tracks like She's Mine pt. 1 & 2, Foldin Clothes, and Ville Mentality. They just aren't good songs. I don't know how else to explain those tracks. I understand they mean something to him, but just can't eat behind them from a fan's point of view. And that almost makes it hard to fully enjoy the album because that's almost a third of the content.
Dec 11, 2016 I also feel like people feel like they HAVE to enjoy the album in it's entirety because it's essentially all we've gotten in two years.
Dec 11, 2016 Every song tells a story. Once you find that story, you'll appreciate each one a bit more. I think it was an A+ album. I'm having trouble with "Foldin Clothes" and that's about it. It's like Truly Yourz 1,2 & 3 were the trailers for 4 Your Eyez Only. Classic!
