    He deserted his post and 6 soldiers died looking for him. He brought the taliban stuff on himself.

    He should be in prison.

    I thought that they weren't able to prove that anyone died looking for him, but maybe I'm behind. That makes it worse if so, but honestly I still feel like that's punishment enough.

    Just saw that US was unable to prove any deaths related to this, so my bad on that. Seemed to be the report for awhile. However, the soldiers who looked for him were badly wounded. One was shot in the leg and one has been left paralyzed and unable to speak.

    A fine and dishonorable discharge is for a petty crime. He deserted his post, which was an inexcusable and cowardly move. None of this would have happened if he had just stayed at his post. The prisoners that we foolishly gave to the Taliban in exchange for him would still be in Gitmo. That soldier would still be walking and able to speak. Not to mention he likely told the taliban things he wasn’t supposed to.

    In other news, ya boy Bernie is looking good for 2020 :emoji_hushed:

    I guess for me what it comes down to is that he left his post because he felt like what was going on with leadership in his platoon (I'm unclear what exactly was going on) was putting his fellow soldiers in danger. He didn't just desert because he didn't want to be in the army any more, he made a stupid decision and a mistake and he was severely punished by a five year "jail term" with the taliban that I wouldn't wish on anyone. He definitely does not belong in the army any more, but I have compassion for him and he does not deserve further prison time for a mistake he already paid for. Putting him in prison is just a waste of money and resources IMO -- it's not like he can f--- anything else up if he's no longer in the army, and while it's tragic that another soldier was paralyzed because of him, no amount of jail time is going to change what's already done.

    Knowing our luck it's gonna be Zuckerberg vs. Trump 2020.

    So last night, Maine became the first state to vote for Medicaid expansion. Expansion won & it wasn’t even close but now the Maine governor is going back on his word & refusing to expand Medicaid despite most of voters stating they want it expanded:



    However, it appears voters have a legal case if the governor does indeed prevent expansion via veto. Regardless, what a piece of s---.
