the dossier was prepared by a known intelligence official. it didn't go from unnamed source to journalist. it was commissioned during the primary race.

serious question: do you guys really not trust major news outlets? like at all?

this is something @Papa Andy and i talk about a lot. one of the worst effects trump has had is that he's somehow convinced 30 percent of the country that the news media is somehow illegitimate.

I don't necessarily think they're illegitimate, just very biased. If you didn't think there was bias in the pre-election coverage, then well I don't really know what to tell you other than we're very far apart on how we see this.

Me thinking the media is biased has nothing to do with Trump by the way, I've thought that for years.

    1. what is "the media" when you use that term?
    2. how would you characterize any bias in the election coverage?

We're all humans, bias to some extent or another is going to be present but if you're reading a title of an article and then disregarding all the contents of said article because you perceived the title as "bias" you're not being open minded. You're closing your eyes and ears and pretending like you're being open minded.

i don't know how/why the discussion now is about "100 percent trusting" any news outlet. you should read everything critically. but it's silly to act as if the underlying editorial standards at major outlets don't exist.

i'm not sure why you think this is an exclusive conversation that i'm trying to engage in with my post, that didn't quote anyone...

It's silly that editorial standards allowed a made up 4chan story to circulate multiple news outlets.

    Are you kidding me?

Karl Rove/Rush Limbaugh/Roger Ailes/Rupert Murdoch pulled this off in 2001-2002.

The Republican Party is the strong majority party because more than 30% of the population voluntary brainwash themselves with propaganda for decades, and put their fingers in their ears and scream "you're lying to me." when the free press report truth to power.

no, obviously the idea that those with certain press preferences are more divorced from reality than the others. but this isn't the same thing-- it's the sincere belief that reported news as an institution is fundamentally and irreversibly wrong, full stop. not biased or being spun, but like, a dude on a couch writing fiction.

Trump is an oppertunistic disease that struck an America that has been very very sick from the "CEC" for a long time.

Trump hasn't lived in reality ever himself. He spent most of his adult life living on the "68th" floor of a building that only has 58 floors. It's first nature for him to lie or even pretend to be his made up imaginary friend on the phone.

Ted Cruz could never say "the real unemployment rate is 42%", "believe it or not, we export nothing to Japan at all." or "crime is at a 47 year high."... Because even though he is an ideological arch conservative maniac... He still lives in reality.

Guys, here's the thing. It's not that a lot of you aren't smart or capable. You are. It's just that - when it comes to understanding shifting media winds/politics/influence of the Internet and a generational diet of conservative bs that sow contempt for most American institutions - you're out of your element, pretty much. And weak. But the Internet and culture or whatever is v empowering -- everyone's opinion is supposed to mean something --- when it actually rly doesn't. Trust the experts sometimes and recognize ur own foolishness lol

You can't point to one or two or ten media stories and try to draw sweeping conclusions about "media bias." And like... Who are you guys to think that? You casually follow news and politics because it's a form of entertainment. You've been led to think you can analyze and process this stuff ....when you can't. That's the irony of the 24/7 news cycle, media fracturing and republican politicians whose rhetoric is anti this anti that.

I've came to terms with this years ago. That's why I barely discuss politics anymore. Wish more people were self aware.
