    My parents moved me to the most wealthy subdivision in my area. There i had trouble finding friends and all the girls called me a loser. I spent my days inside being a fa----, but my dad made me go outside one day where the mailman lured me to his van with some skullcandy headphones and r---d me there. Because of all this i now exclusively listen to eminem.

    Grew up with my mum listening exclusively to Vietnamese love ballads/wartime songs/opera (shoutout @Nori he knows what I'm on about). So I have a soft spot for that type of stuff. Very melodic and melodramatic.

    My oldest bro was the catalyst for me to submerge myself in hip-hop. It was the mainstream stuff back then like Fiddy/Eminem and 90s classics. Mainly because he started downloading music back then on dial-up internet and those were the 'it' things to download and listen to.

    Also a lot of RnB like Usher/Craig David/ATL/Boyz II Men/Omarion.

    all my uncles and my dad have been heavy into music their whole life and been showing me stuff since i was little

    my uncle gave me a hard drive of his entire music collection a couple months ago and its like 80k songs

    My parents listened to a lot of U2/Stones/Beatles etc and when I was younger I was like f--- that oldtimer s--- but now I love it

    in some cases, when kids start listening to music, their parents will introduce them to certain artists. and the kid(s) will start listening to that particular artist or genre because its what they were first introduced to.

    for me, my parents had very little to no influence on my musical taste. my mom raised me on her own (don't worry guys, i know my dad too :) ) and i didn't even really start getting into music until I was about 13-15 years old. i don't know why, but my mom and I never really talked about music that much. outkast and eminem were two of the artists i first discovered. and because i enjoyed them so much, i started researching more hip hop from the past and present. and then for a loooong time the only thing that i would listen to was hip hop. its not that i didn't like other genres......its just that once you start listening to a particular genre and enjoying it..........its easy to get stuck on that ONE genre. later down the road i started giving other genres a chance and i'm glad i did........because other-wise i would have missed out on some great stuff!

    so i guess my question is.......how did your parents influence your musical taste? a little bit? a lot?

    also.......which artists or genres did your parents introduce you to? did you like these artists or not?

    My folks listen to 90% Mexican music and another 5% to any other Latino genre. But in my dad's case that remaining 5% was hip-hop, he listened to a lot of Tribe, Outkast & DJ Quik so I remember hearing all that growing up.

    My biggest influence was certainly my late uncle who pretty much schooled me on everything I know about rap & music in general. His Christmas gifts for me were CDs (Nas' Stillmatic & Daft Punk's Discovery to name a few).

    Yeah, see my uncle used to get me drunk when I was nine and show me p--- and let me listen to music my parents wouldn't let me to like MMLP. He used to always give me groin massages for my headaches. Because of that I now exclusively listen to Eminem as well.

    jk my parents are immigrants, my older brother had the bigger impact on me when it comes to music. he bought me SSLP, All Eyez On Me, and 2001 when I was 10 and I never looked back.

    I always have haunting memories of little owl and dad playing pink Floyd (DSOTM) and Nick cave ("into my arms" especially ) in the old car and it makes me shake sort of inside nowadays when I press play. Iconic cac s--- ya dig

    Yikes. Im glad i have a much simplier reason. I listened to eminem because he repped Detroit and I'm from Detroit. It was that simple since I was only like 12 at the time.
