Feb 18, 2017 i listened 5 times last night back to back to back and i can't say enough good things about this album. but as far as drawbacks: the first 5 tracks can feel stale. maybe 1 (or 2) of zoom, draco, or super trapper should have been dropped (but take your pick, they're all good songs) because the album settles in at POA and just continues it's excellence throughout. as far as the production goes, i can't really argue. but mask off onwards is nice to me, i feel like it reminds me of the stuff 2 chainz used in his 2016 run. i can see people who are disappointed because they feel it's a wheels in the mud type project. but i think, come say 6-7 months, people will see the project for what it is. and it has some of the best writing since like 56 nights, so i can't imagine too many fans will stay mad at it. for me this new future album a 8/10
Feb 18, 2017 I grew up around the age where mixtapes where throwaway tapes with songs that were not good enough for studio albums. My perception is changing but for those who got into hip-hop around the time of when trap was starting to take over, that's their true definition of a mixtape. Which I'm changing my definition to because the old mixtape model is outdated.
Feb 18, 2017 should i listen to all of these or do u have recommendations of where i should start and s---. best to worst?
Feb 18, 2017 oh yeah mask off is FANTASTIC but like i said the only thing i really had a problem with on this album was the production, it just felt extremely repetitive to me at some point but i guess it can also work as a way to keep the album really run smoothly as a top-down listen, if it hits a sweet spot Feds Did A Sweep, Mask Off, When I Was Broke, Rent Money are my solid favorites, the rest im not too sure about yet
Feb 18, 2017 Felt the same way with FUTURE. I was ready to put it below EVOL when I first heard it lmfao
Feb 18, 2017 well, based on the zane lowe interview, i think he's gearing up for another 2015-esque run so hopefully there will be something for you in the coming months.
Feb 18, 2017 oh s--- in af also i just listened to streetz calling today, it was amazing get on it asap
Feb 18, 2017 I had no idea n----s thought about DS2 like this lmfaoo. I guess the way it hit was wayy different
Feb 18, 2017 i had it over evol all the time but i wasnt sure whether i like it more than purple reign i do now tho
Feb 18, 2017 DS2 is dope as h---, 7.5/10 album i just feel like if the first chapter of the book was monster, and DS2 was the last chapter, then the climax happened some time before DS2.
Feb 18, 2017 He has such a solid Discography it will probably move around the top 7. Without putting too much thought into it I would probably rank it 5th or 6th behind in no particular order: Monster Honest Beast mode Pluto or DS2
Feb 18, 2017 I instantly took off the mixtape cuts as they're bonus tracks and belong on their respective tapes -- but you're right, it's really dumb that he interspersed those tracks with Know the Meaning and Percocet and Strippers Joint. Why those aren't on the standard edition is beyond me. But yeah, that's what I meant about DS2. It was the mainstream victory lap before the commercial juggernaut victory lap.
Feb 18, 2017 It's growing on me a lot. But Draco and Super Trapper could both be cut IMO. I love Zoom.
Feb 18, 2017 Evol shouldnt be that low, its worth checking out. one of his most underrated projects, it definitely should be above Steetz calling....no way its futures worst project
Feb 18, 2017 yeah zoom is a jam. i love all 3 if i'm honest haha. i just feel like most of the complaints about this album are due to the tempo of the first 6 tracks. all of them are good tracks, it's just a matter of condensing that segment of the album.
Feb 18, 2017 To me, I feel people don't give DS2 enough proper credit due to the mainstream attention it gained. In my experience, DS2 is like this hazy drug trip that starts with the opening of a soda can (Thought it was a drought), and effortlessly goes song to song with these drugged out anthems and experiences through Future's eyes while he got the lean goggles. He creates this atmosphere that's thick, psychedelic, and it carries you through every unforgiving and grimey deed. Shoutout to Rotation bc I thought Future was just mean on that.
