He was accused by two different people on set. Still don't see why s--- from nearly a decade would stop him from winning an Academy Award.

i think the people who take issue with the adulatory coverage weren't claiming he was r---d

to be honest, the thing that makes me angry is not even so much the idea that affleck was cast in the movie and then praised for his performance (because, like...) but the fact that he had a PR machine plus matt damon leaning on people to avoid writing about it. that's gross.

Did he really stop people from writing about it tho? I would say it was covered pretty thoroughly, not like the academy and everyone else in the world wasn't made aware of the situation.

I still think the whole notion is pretty ridiculous though seeing as how nobody knows what really happened, and they're taking such strong stances against him based off trigger words like sexual assault and r---. I mean did you see that cringeworthy article written by a student condemning Longergan's old college of enabling a sexual predator or whatever that Lonergan wrote a piece responding to? That's the type of s--- that diminishes all credibility of the far left SJWs, mostly made up of clueless immature people who have no real insight to certain topics and situations and just automatically take a stance against anything that could ever be considered remotely offensive.

Actual quote from the article in regards to Affleck winning the Oscar despite the charges:

“If a cashier in a grocery store committed a murder, no matter how well they run the register, they are not going to win employee of the month."

Like sheesh, and there's people like this everywhere complaining about Affleck.

of course people wrote about it in pieces that didn't require direct interviews--but affleck's camp refused to grant access to nearly every outlet that wouldn't agree to leave questions about it out of their pieces.

for the record, i don't at all think that this should disqualify him from winning an oscar. (denzel's performance should disqualify affleck from winning the oscar, but that's another thread.) but i think people are well within their rights to feel kind of gross about the whole ordeal.

i was going to quote your next paragraph line-by-line but suffice to say: i think you should be cautious dismissing things like sexual assault as "trigger words." there are predatory, violent people and it's not some frivolous, immature thing to point that out.

People's energy would've been better spent on Mel Gibson imo. He called Winona Ryder an over-dodger. Huge anti-semite.

No of course I completely agree, I meant that in this case they are trigger words because they hold a lot of weight and require direct attention but they don't belong in this conversation because what Affleck is being accused of is "sexual harassment" which should be very clearly understood as something different from the other two I mentioned. That's where I think it is ignorant of people to be attaching those words to his name without having an understanding of what the actual situation is. In a way, it lessens the meaning and impact of those words if we just generalize every instance of any form of sexual harassment as the most extreme, it takes all the logic and nuance out of the equation and it's something that SJWs are continuously guilty of.

you are 100 percent right that what affleck's accused of is not sexual assault or r---. we need more nuance. i agree. but you are very wrong for painting this as an issue exclusive to (or even unusually common among) any segment of our society.

I agree that it isn't exclusive, but I felt in this situation and with that article I mentioned being fresh in my mind, it was appropriate to link it to that group. Don't get me wrong, I have no issues with the left in general, but there's a small and loud group of uneducated people who are in my opinion the most guilty of this in our current climate. I'm talking about the same people who are marching with f---ing Communist flags, like give me a break, they have no clue what they're pushing.

Exactly, I promise you they don't know much about the history of communism if this is their answer to the current state of our country lol. It's another case of uninformed Americans who don't know the implications of what they're preaching.

Try coming from an Eastern European country who was under communist regime for 40 years and is probably forever stunted and then taking these priveledged cry babies seriously.

i'm not a communist but i think it's very obvious that marching with a communist flag in our current economic state is a very clear bit of symbolism.

symbolism for the fact that we're living in an extraordinarily, historically stratified time in terms of economics and class divide, and the president is a billionaire real estate developer

That doesn't make communism the better option and don't tell me that they wouldn't prefer communism cause that's clearly what they're getting at, they're just ignorant to what it really means.
