Eminem dominated both hip hop and rock radio stations in his prime. And I'm talking his entire albums, not just the singles, when they dropped. It was a huge f---ing event every time he dropped.

Every day there was something new about him. I've never seen a phenomenon like Eminem, EVER.

I see you guys talking about social media platforms, but Eminem dominated radio stations (rock and rap), BET, MTV (TRL, Jams), news outlets, concerts (rock and rap again), any parties you went to, etc. It was like the equivalent of him being on facebook, twitter, snap chat and ig, and flooding it all the time, and being #1 all the time.

He over-saturated the entire entertainment industry, and it went even FURTHER when he starred in 8 Mile.

I think the last 13 years really f----- up people's perception of how loved/popular this dude was.

I saw someone mention 50 Cent as being popular like Eminem. Ummm, who signed 50 again? I forget.

Obie Trice went f---ing double platinum, mostly because everyone wanted to hear Eminem.

And f---, I hate arguing for this recluse hermit, but there's no way I can discredit what he achieved.

Uh... he didn't even debut until 1999, genius.

You sure you don't want to bump that up to 1999-2004?

I don't know how big of a 2004 Eminem had, but it was probably bigger than his 1999.

There's a little thing called radio.

We're talking popularity, so we're talking in terms of what percentage of people were listening to what.

And in that era, it was a more important factor than ever because the single was in the process of being discontinued. Cassettes had singles. Vinyl had singles. When CD's were introduced... no singles. You had to buy the whole CD to get the one song you wanted. Either that, or buy one of those "NOW" discs.

As a result, radio's influenced broadened a ton. That's was a big part of the reason that Hip-Hop and Country were able to take off so well in the early 2000's.

Can you show evidence of this? Specifically, non-singles being played on the radio en masse? Because that's a fairly hard to believe claim.

idk if there's really evidence of it lol. Things were documented on the internet like that back then, but I can check.

I remember it when Eminem Show was released. You couldn't listen to any radio station without Eminem playing.

It's also a fact that Eminem didn't debut until 1999. Your dumb a--- seriously said 1998, lmao.

By the way, I checked the charts like you asked me to. Eminem had 7 Top 40 hits from 1999-2003.

Drake had like 14 Top 40 hits in 2016 alone.

I mean, I know this is an oversimplified version of the dynamic between the two of their careers, but these are more facts for you.

By definition Drake is more popular today. He's practically the embodiment of todays rap culture
Eminem is more famous today but keep in mind he did try to get into the club culture with s--- like Shake That, etc

Eminem just doesn't meet that particular rap culture today and the fact that he doesn't release hundreds of songs a year obviously plays a role in whatever we are defining as "radio popular". He's still the more well known individual on a worldwide scale.

If it was the 2000s right now... I'm pretty sure we would be listening to Eminems music because we went out and bought his CD because of the massive hype... not because the radio played it (which it did later with TES), like how Drake gets his music out. It wasn't radio friendly at first..

I'm sorry but this entire argument is flawed no matter how you cut it...
Drake wins in terms of actual rap culture but Eminem wins in terms of actual name brand

Radio play has been well documented since about 1958. And has been automatically logged by Rentrack since about 1992,

It's a major hobby of mine to go through these type of logs and compile stats.
