Mar 25, 2017 Honestly, I don't care that much. I Googled it, and all there is, is rock message boards asking why Eminem is playing on their rock stations from 2001 to 2003. If you want to find it, go ahead lol.
Mar 25, 2017 Like I said, it's an over simplification, to clown you with facts. You're right that streaming helps songs pop up into the top 40 for a week or two and then completely fall off the chart. But Summer Sixteen, Hotline Bling, Jumpman, One Dance, Pop Style, Controlla, and Too Good, Fake Love were all legit hit songs that dominated late 2015- present with actual longevity.
Mar 25, 2017 Lose yourself been getting constant sales for 15 years, now thats longevity Ltwyl bigger than drake song
Mar 25, 2017 Nah. I'm not 100% sure the ins and outs of it, because I typically stay to the charts that combine sales with radio. I'm pretty sure they include all radio stations regardless of format. If they didn't in the 50's, they definitely did in the 90's-present.
Mar 25, 2017 Even when he tried that avenue again with his Weeknd The Hills Remix, it kept the Weeknd at #1 Billboard Billboard has released this week’s top selling songs and The Weeknd stays at number one for fifth week on Billboard Hot 100. The song “The Hills” sold 189,000 downloads but only 51% of it comes from original versions. 35% belongs to Eminem’s remix version and 14% goes for Nicki Minaj, but as Billboard reports Em and Nicki won’t get the credits for Weeknd’s number one spot. Let’s do a bit of math. The original version sold 51 percent of 189,000, which is equivalent to 96,390. Meanwhile Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling” sells 119,000 downloads. So, if not Eminem and Nicki’s remixes, Drake would have scored his first number one hit on Billboard Hot 100. This is literally the closet comparison we will ever have and it's todays Eminem, not prime Eminem
Mar 25, 2017 I don't have specific stats off the top of my head to disagree with that, Could be true I guess. Let me check my spreadsheets. I got One Dance at 3.196 (equivalent of 63.3% of a week) I got Love The Way You Lie at... 2.483 (equivalent of 49% of a week) If you want to do the math yourself: Find the area underneath the line that says "US Singles Chart" https://acharts.co/song/55808 Area = 2,483 https://acharts.co/song/98666 Area = 3,196
Mar 25, 2017 thats a TERRIBLEEEEEE way of looking at this lmfao....that means whatever songs released that week could effect it look at overall sales...overall plays...like youtube counter wtf with that method
Mar 25, 2017 So Eminem sold for 35% (66,150) of a song that wasn't even his... Compared to Drake 119,000 of his most popular song ever Again, todays Eminem did this, not prime
Mar 25, 2017 Makes more sense than completely ignoring how 80% of people listen to music. (i.e. RIAA throughout most of its existence)
Mar 25, 2017 thats again, a terrible way of looking at this spotify didnt exist when Elvis was alive, which makes this impossible...but moving units did exist they added streams in order to help artists sell as much as they did back then, but drake still wont be able to even come close this is what your dealing with lady (mmlp2 isnt updated its been like that since 2013) but you get the point, even recovery which is considered recent, sold 15 millions copy just let it go, you cant compare Eminem to Drake
Mar 25, 2017 I mean, all I remember from Eminem was he dominated every type of radio station in the early 2000's, and he always competed with the Backstreet Boys and NSYNC, which was crazy because no hip hop artist really did. IDK how I can prove to you that they played MMLP and TES on rock and rap shows, but they did. It was kinda like what they do when they pay tribute to fallen rappers, singers or rock bands. He was always top 3-5 on TRL, Jams, 106 and park, Hitz etc, which was a huge deal back then because kids would run home from school and dial up and email MTV/BET to vote. This guy went on TRL and they had to shut down Times Square and put the curtains down because of him being in the window. MTV used to dedicate specials to this dude, and even let him run MTV for an entire day when MMLP was released. And this is PRIOR to 8 Mile. When he did 8 Mile, he shot through the roof. Kinda funny, because then his downfall happened lol.
Mar 25, 2017 Eminem has some big songs. Like I said in my very first post on this thread. Their strategies are different. Eminem has fewer songs, and his songs are bigger than average. They're also spread out throughout a wider length of time. Drake has two very very big songs: Hotline Bling and One Dance. His third biggest is probably Best I Ever Had. Eminem probably has like 5 or 6 songs bigger than Best I Ever Had. Don't quote me on this, this is just off the dome.
Mar 25, 2017 srsly look at drake sales like the difference is so f---ing huge, i dont get how they dare to even speak back and yes, you can still sell huge today...look at adele and swift
Mar 25, 2017 Which proves my point pages ago that even todays eminem could top drake no matter how average he is now
Mar 25, 2017 It was a joke on the idea of comparing album sales between time periods in which the music industry was vastly different. That's why charting is so much more reliable of a method of measurement. It's basically based on market share. 5 weeks at #1 in 2000 is comparable to 5 weeks at #1 in 2017. The sales? entirely incomparable. The radio impressions? Entirely incomparable. The streams? They didn't even exist in 2000. And looking at any one of those individual aspects is only going to be a part of the story. The charts is every relevant component combined.
Mar 25, 2017 actually, im not sure if im going crazy but sales im seeing and not afraid and ltwyl counts is recovery actually more popular than any drake album? LMFAO dude i think it is
Mar 25, 2017 girl even f---ing recovery which is in 2010 SOLD 15 MILLIONS, give me a drake album that sold that much...go ahead
